I think its on UK People - I was channel surfing last night and an old ep of airport was on.

Anyway a portion of it featured VS training and the examination process.

I was wondering if any of our VS staff regulars were featured on that show? (It was filmed some years ago, and im not sure what VS flight crew churn rate is)

The UC Cabin was all recaro seats so I guess it was about 1998..?

It was interesting anyway so people that have SKY or Cable should check it out..

I've caught it on Sky on a couple of occasions in the past including the ones with the VS training episodes. Either in that or the following series one of the flights shown was the inaugural JNB flight so that should give you an idea of when they were recorded.

Jonathan

I have to admit that i have caught most of the episodes when they have done a back to back weekender of the programme. Even though i have seen them before, it is something I can watch time and time again[:I]

I think for the VS flight crew training segments they featured a girl called Jill through starting training to doing her first flight to New York.

for those of you who are very sad, you can find it every night on UK people between 8 & 9pm (2 episodes)

I watch it quite a bit on UKTV People, good filler program for half an hour. Seen most now I'm sure.

It always seems to be the one where the dog on the Air India flight needs a wee!

Hi,

I have Airport setup for series-link on my Sky+ STB - always great to watch, do have to laugh at times at the outright stupidity of some of the passengers (but then when you have 63m+ people trawling thru each year its no wonder!)

I watched the one with the inaugral flight to JNB last night (it was June 97 for those who were interested) - it was great to see all the branding, including the very old Upper Class logos.

Thanks,
Richard

i watch this also but am i the only one that thinks it paints VS
cabin crew in a bad light.
yesterdays episode was the training bit where the cabin crew were being taught how to assist blind pax.
the lady mentioned , Jill, was being really silly and giggly and not at all taking the training serioously.
helping disabled pax is a serious issue
i for one hope that the lady featured , Jill , is not a FA when i fly.
i do think that some light heartedness is a very good thing but there are limits.

comparing their attitude to the consierge man from one of the other airlines i know who i would want to help me .

Thats a fair point candyman, VS is known for its fun, but at the same time there is a need to have some professionalism - but I do think it is the way that the program is edited at times.

Are you thinking of Kelvin, the Air Canada Concierge? I saw him once when I was walking to the gate, stopped and had a quick chat with him - he was really nice, even though I was flying off on a VS flight (of course) and not an AC one. Now if only we could have some dedicated concierges at LHR....

Thanks,
Richard

For those of you who were concerned about Jill she left after approx 18 months and last thing I heard was flying for Air New Zealand. However their contracts are only for a few years so she will have probably moved on again. I think she got a bit of a rough time at Virgin in that all the crew were constantly take the p*@s.

Richard I hate to correct you but I believe the inaguaral flight to JNB was Nov/Dec '96. First Christmas I worked at Virgin I went to JNB Boxing Day and that was definitely 96, yikes I have really been there that long! Sorry Richard but you know us women, we are always right!!! :)

Hi SouthernBelle!

Yeah I can only imagine how much stick Jill got - probably nearly as much as Lauren with the Rio incident :)

And yes my mistake, June 97 is when the service went daily. The flights commenced October 96, with the Clubhouse in JNB opening Dec 1996.

Thanks,
Richard

P.S I'm looking for Miss Right, I just hope her first name isn't Always.

On the inaguaral flight to JNB programme the clubhouse looked entirely different was it in the same place at LHR.I didn't get across the threshold until November 1999.

I think Kelvin used to work for Canadian Airlines International(took over by AC?) sure he checked us onto a flight to YYZ before he appeared on Airport quite a few years ago.

I remember having my passport checked in T1 by that rude passport guy who was always correcting Foreigners' english.

He really did seem to have a chip on his shoulders
