Vegas with Virgin for the 4th of July

Hi,

I am off to vegas on the 4th of july for a long stag weekend. As always, I am travelling with Virgin...

Does anyone know what vegas or indeed Virgin does on the 4th of July?

Does vegas have any good outside firework displays? If so, where are they, and where is the best place to watch then? Also, Does Virgin do anything special on the flight out to the USA on the 4th of July?

Any links or points would be a great help.

I had requested that flight, but will be in HKG!

I don't think we do anything special on the 4th of July, it's just another day really and we are a British Carrier so doesn't really have much to do with us. Vegas itself, I'm not too sure always seem to miss it.

Last time I was there, most of the action was off the strip. There were firework displays at the local ballpark, as I remember, and in other locations around the area. On the strip, it seemed pretty much a night like any other night - busy as it was a long weekend, but other than that, business as usual.

You'll have real experts who can point you to what goes on there, much better than I can as an occasional visitor.

Well with July 4th being a Friday this year, the town should pretty much go nuts...fireworks, drinking all the normal stuff...just book your rooms now !

Sadly i'm pretty sure vegas does not really do too much on 4th July ~ you may see a few fire works but it won't be a big event like new years eve, but it won't matter as its vegas and you'll have an amazing time

My school choir and jazz band are performing at the Bellagio on 4th July (in fact - we are on the same plane as you on the 2nd, so enjoy that!).

I am heading out there next week to do risk assessment work for the school trip - and finding out what is happening on 4th July is part of that. When im back, I will try to post some links and details for you. Looking around online, last year the big firework displays in town were cancelled because it was so hot and therefore dangerous but there were still lots of things in local ball parks and more residential parts of the city.

One recommendation from me would be to do the Champagne brunch at the Wynn, it's around $25 and it's free flowing champagne, just enough to top you up! And then in the perfume shop in the Fashion Show Mall go and see Consuela, she's a bit bizarre but funny (she licked my neck last year - still don't know why!)

Depending on your taste, I believe Cher is now perfoming at Caesers Palace, and if you like clubs then there are loads! Women generally get treated a bit better than the men, oh and importantly you can't wear trainers in the clubs at night!

Yeah the Wynn Hotel, you can't miss it. I generally just follow other people around that massive hotel, got lost twice in there trying to get out!

Why would a British airline celebrate the 4th July? [?] The loss of a subsequently rather naughty colony is no cause for a party. [;)]

I've happened to be in Vegas over Jul 4th twice in the past three years (never travelling there just cos it's July the 4th). Nothing happens on the strip apart from thousands of people stand outside on the sidewalks and bridges hoping to see the fireworks, even though there won't be any! It's funny, no matter how many times they're told nothing is going to happen, they will still stand there all night.

As this is my 7th trip to Vegas, does anyone have any hints or tips / pointers for some fun casino type stuff to do off the strip? I have been to the old part of vegas for a short while, and enjoyed it... I just wondered if there were any websites that have off strip fun to do.

Was just in Vegas and had a meeting with the Mayor's office regarding my school trip there. There are no planned events for July 4th on the strip this year due to fire danger. There will be lots of events at local ball parks and in residential areas, but absolutly nothing special on the strip. My school are going to a show that night, but it would be worth mentioning that many shows are nearly sold out for both the 7pm and 930pm performances, so if you are planning to see something that night, book now!
