I'm flying JFK-LHR on VS, LHR-MME on BMI.

I have a connection time of 2 hours. My tickets are separate. The VS is in UC on a mileage ticket. The BMI ticket was purchased separately, but both by my travel agent.

Since they were purchased separately, will VS check my bags through? I know it says no on their website, but maybe as a silver VS member, and as an UC passenger they may?

Golden ball does not lie. There is a VF member who frequently flies VS and EI on different tickets and must reclaim baggage in LHR and recheck.

You could get luck and get and agent that will do it. Issue is that if/when your bag gets lost, VS pays the claim even if they may not have been a party to the loss. Thus they do not want the liability.

DEFINITELY don't count on it. Still, 2 hours is do-able. [:)]

I'm the member who flies VS and EI regularly on separate tickets and I always have to reclaim and check in for my onward flight. This is as a gold member and a UC passenger. I should add that I really don't mind this as I allow myself 3 hours connection and use Revivals when arriving in the morning.

I have however been able to check my bags all the way through when I have had a connecting flight to a VS station and an onward EI flight. For example I was baggage checked GSO-IAD-LHR-ORK, so if you are connecting to JFK from somewhere in the States you may be able to do it.

Were the UA, VS and EI segments all booked on different tickets?

UA/VS were on the one ticket with EI separate

I've had United check my bags through connecting to separate tickets, no problems. On this kind of thing they tend to be very accomodating. Virgin used to do it a few years back, I was once able to check through to Milan on a separate BA ticket. I was surprised when they first stopped doing it, but am not that bothered anymore, as honey lamb pointed out, there is always revivals ...
