Anybody know if it's possible to book a reward flight with Singapore Airlines? Going to LAX with Virgin and coming back from Singapore with SA in upper? I have just over 140,000 miles with Virgin and have tried on both airlines websites and it won't let me book.

Also, does anybody know if the Virgin Clubhouse in Tokyo has showers? I know the airport has pay for showers, but just wondered about the clubhouse.

Thank You

Hmmm - we need a little deconstruction here [:?].

You're wanting LHR-LAX in UC ... then sounds like you are making your own way to SIN via ??? but wanting a Virgin codeshare on SIA from SIN-LHR? SIA is Singapore Airlines btw, SA may get confusing with South African Airways (SAA) but that's by the by. Note, VS does not fly SIN direct but SIA is the partner airline.

You'll be needing a one way UC LHR-LAX which is 50,000 miles - try to go into your flying club account and check whether there is availability on your dates using spend miles.

Then call Flying Club and ask them to check availability on your dates with SIA from SIN-LHR, for this you will need to spend 60,000 miles.

You won't be able to do such a routing via the VS Web site but you will be able to confirm the LAX leg if there is availability, however I'd confirm it all on the telephone to be sure.

As to Tokyo, well I suppose some 'bitches' would know better [:w].

Welcome to V-Flyer.

Booking reward flights in SQ with VS miles has to be done by phone through the Flying Club. You say the dates and flights you want, they check with SQ for availability - a little unwieldy in this online booking age, but it worked okay for us when we did it- got 2 business class returns LHR - SIN no problem.

With regards to the NRT Clubhouse, see this thread and the links within it, for details of the facilities available. Showers don't seem to get a mention, but I am sure someone who has used it will say for sure.

Hey, thanks for the excellent replies Slinky & Nick! [y]

Very helpful but I have just booked up SFO - JFK, upper, with a touch of Hawaii thrown in for good measure in September.[:D]

Will do Japan early next year so your knowledge will come in helpful then.

Thank You [oo]

So, in the space of 1h 29m, you changed from a Tokyo/Singapore trip to New York and Hawaii?

SLIGHT change of plan...? [?]

Don't worry Ive had several plans depending where I need to be and whats on. Two routes have been milling around in my head for the past week or so and the latter won out, since they're only playing Mahler 1 at Suntory Hall in September.

Thanks again.

If you plan to use your VS miles on SQ then make sure you redeem them for first class tickets. Despite going up from 110K miles for a return award flight in First SFO-HKG remains a bargain at 130K. Don't redeem your miles for business class as it is only 110K miles.

Compare this for 180K needed for a first class return from LHR-SIN and you can see why this is a still a bargain. LHR-SIN is under 6,700 miles. SFO-HKG is over 6,900 miles.

I'll be using my miles in the near future to book an award ticket in F on the SFO-HKG route. Best use of VS miles by a long shot I reckon.

Was in NRT Clubhouse last Sunday and there are no showers I'm afraid.
The NRT Clubhouse is absolutely great but it is a bit small and if J is full then the clubhouse can feel a bit crowded. I realise that there is only 1 departure a day and VS are only allowed to open their check-in 2 and a half hours before departure so any bigger lounge would just be a waste of money.

If the NRT lounge was in LHR then people would be happy to get away from the hussle and bustle of the public space and BAA trying to take all your money in sales. The problem is that Narita is a very large and open airport and if you step away from the gates you can find huge areas where you can sit or lie down for a rest and it's pretty quiet.

Saw the A380 and a cool Aeroflot plane last week, have TR notes on my desk and am trying to find time to get my first one done.

Thanks for that eejp! You would have thought Virgin would have put showers in all of it's clubhouses, must be the water bill. I hope JFK clubhouse has got showers otherwise there's gonna be a big complaint going in hehe[B)]

anyone going to or passing through Narita should be aware of the excellent pay showers and rooms:

It's a shame all the major airports don't have these facilities.

Probably the reason is because there's only one VS flight and it leaves early in the day. Not essential for shower facilities if you've just checked-out of your hotel in the morning.

I've used the United RCC and both ANA lounges at NRT T1 and they are all equpped with excellent shower facilities as is the ANA Domestic lounge.
