As some of you may have noticed, I've added a banner to the site for the fuel surcharge refund (linking to this site)

Basically, if you bought a long-haul ticket on British Airways or Virgin Atlantic between 11th August 2004 and 23rd March 2006 (and expect a lot of you probably have), then you may be entitled to some money back, due to a legal settlement with BA & VS.

You'll be able to use their online claim form from 14th July.

When it was first posted here lots of us registered our interest in making a claim. I wonder if they will make contact with us or what will happen?

Oops... fixed that link now.

I suspect it's part of the same settlement, although given the call to register (and they are paying for the ad on V-Flyer [;)]), I don't suppose it hurts to register online with them.

Also, just so you know...

The company handling the claims will have access to data for refund purchases, so you will not have to contact VAA for copies of anything. From the sounds of it, you may just need to register and they can check when you travelled too (although that sounds just a bit too easy... although let's wait for the online claim form to appear to verify that one!)

This has seriously got to be hurting VS right now.

£27.9m UK Settlment Fund
$12.6m US Settlment Fund

And I think we can guess how 'cheap' the lawyer fees will be as they are separate.

If it doesn't hurt, there's no incentive to stop doing it. Now they have to try harder to give the appearance that they don't collude on prices.

But not hurting as much as the £270m fine that BA got for the same surcharge offence

Thanks.

Do Reward Flights count for this?
We still paid the naughty fuel surcharge so we should be able to claim no?

Do you have to register each family member separate or can we claim as a family?

Yes they do count - you will need to provide your FC number.

How? [?]

I didn't think the form was even 'online' until the 14th?

The PDF version is under Important Documents. I'll wait for 2 weeks I think. You have until December 31 2012 for claims to be received.

Do flights booked as flydrives and packages through VH and other agents qualify ? If so is it the flight date or the booking date that's important ?
#447826 by Pete

Any flight where you paid the fuel surcharge will qualify, regardless of the method, including packages and reward flights.

Even if say you booked the flight and never took it..and for some daft reason forgot to claim back the taxes etc [:w]

So is the date you 'bought your ticket' the day you made your booking and put your deposit down with the holiday company ?

Site is now live for online claims. Direct link here

Rather handily, they offer the option of simply providing your Flying Club number, so you don't have to dig out all of your flight details (as long as you linked all bookings to that FC number)

50 online claims submitted so far.

Does anyone have any idea how that will work for groups?

I always had the wife and 2 kids with me, and the kids on VS dont get a FC number.

Just been working it out, and its adding up to a good night out [y]

Sorry, let me correct the meaning of that statement. As of that time this morning, 50 PEOPLE had submitted a claim...! No idea how many claims mine is valid for personally [:?]

160 now. I won't be expecting to see the cash for at least 6 months if then.

Is it just me or have they got the VS flight destinations wrong. I cannot see LHR or LGW in the drop down lists.
