Hi we have booked through Virgin Holidays, Economy out and PE return.
Expert flyer shows good availability and would fancy upgrading at the airport if possible.
Does anyone know which fare class will be on our tickets?
I'm sure before we had W tickets?

VH usually book Economy in N or X, PE is in H which is a special VH code for PE(or sometimes K) would be VERY surprised if it was in W, that is the most expensive fully flexible fare code for PE.

Welcome to V-Flyer.

I agree with Neil. VH seem to use whatever code is available - usually the cheapest.

It may be worth contacting VH, as sometimes they can offer good deals on upgrades prior to travel. They will also be able to tell you which class you are booked in.

When you know how much VH would charge - give VS a ring to compare.

The downside to this is if you choose to upgrade at the airport, and are given a higher quote, you will be annoyed that you didn't upgrade in advance. [;)]

thanks for your advice.
It doesn't show an upgrade available on the website and the call centres are usually hard to hear!!
Will give it a go though thanks

Welcome to V-Flyer [y]

The only way you can upgrade a V Hols flight booking is via V Hols (but it has to be done before they issue your e-tickets) or at the airport on the day of travel using cash only. VS will not accept miles to upgrade any V Hols fare.

If you upgrade at the airport, VS should be able to do it for you depending on availability. There's no specific fare class VS will upgrade you to so it could cost you quite a lot if the lower fares have already sold out.

V Hols use H fares for PE bookings but VS will not be able to upgrade you to this at the airport as VS dont have access to this fare.

The cheapest option is to try and do it via V Hols before you travel.

Many moons ago, VH did used to issue PE tickets in S or W class. I've been booked in both on flights i took in about 2002/2003. Nowadays, as Neil has said, its pretty much H class only for PE which cant be upgraded with miles.

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks Highflyer, we went 2003 or 2004 and I'm sure it said W as I remember asking what the letter on the ticket meant.

My flight back from BGI last Thursday was booked in W through VH - I was suprised. Outbound it had been booked in H.

That is true. We travelled VH to MCO last november and got a PE upgrade through VH for £120 per passenger each way!![y][y]
I'm not sure you will get much better that. Still don't know how we managed it

Sometimes if V Hols sell too much of their fare allocation for flights, they issue a higher VS fare and then you become wait listed by VS for a lower fare, if or when they become available.

If no lower fares open up, V Hols will keep you on the higher fare (at their expense).

Last year this happened to me for one of my DXB flights. I'd booked PE both ways via V Hols and had a H fare one way and a full W fare the other, upto about 3 weeks before I travelled. It then changed to a H fare both ways.
