Virgin recruiting in Hong Kong

So, stagger back to hotel last night and see big Virgin Atlantic sign. Naturally, I have to go over and investigate. Seems they had an open recruitment day yesterday. Then in this mornings South china Morning Post there's an article about it saying they are looking to recruit 100 more cabin crew for their new flight.

The article is here, but unfortunately you can't read it all without signing up for a free trial. The gist of it is, that they had over 800 applicants for the 100 jobs. Many of whom were ex employees of Oasis and a some from Cathay.

What surprises me is that an additional flight requires 100 CC?

I watched the local news broadcast via satellite last night and it mentioned it too. There are 100 spaces and they offering 840 people for their chance to be that 100. Many Oasis cabin crew applying and they mentioned in the interview whether the company is stable unlike Oasis with the rising costs etc.

I do wonder if they will ever recruit US based staff, I am sure there are plenty of people here who would love to fly for VS and with the pound to dollar exchange rate right now the lines would be long.

If Their Graces are aboard, that barely covers the luggage handling, not even accounting for requests for extra popadoms, bedding for Floyd, et al.

National crew are always paid in their local currency and the pay is in line with the cost of living in that country. For example our Delhi based crew are paid about a third of what the UK based crew are paid because the cost of living in India is far lower. It's still a good wage by Indian standards. The Japanese crew are all based here in the UK because the cost of living in Japan is so high.

I love all of our national crew members and they are all hard working crew members, but I have in the past been the only UK based crew member working in the economy cabin and I think that is wrong, we are a British airline.

The base salary they were offering was HK$14400, including expenses.
