Row 18 PE

Sorry if this has already been answered but i searched the first 75 pages and couldnt find it so here goes...

I have booked 3 PE seats on virgin travelling to Dubai for xmas this year and the travel agent has held row 18 3 middle seats DEF? I have searched on a couple of sites and found that 1 said these seats are very good and show nothing in front an the other said these seats are v poor as no legroom. Does anyone have experience of these seats on this route or can offer any advice on these please.

Firstly, welcome to V-Flyer!

How tall are you? These seats in row 18 do offer extra legroom but have a wall infront of the seats so while you technically get more legroom, you cant stretch out all the way if you are tall and usually stick your legs under the seat infront. Im not particularly tall and found these seats to be excellent. Dubai is usually on the A346 (config 1), those same seats on the A343 seem to be even roomier.

Hmmn I'm the same height. I've never sat it those seats and didn't much fancy them once I'd had a good look. But then I'm a leg stretcher - as Sarah indicated you'll have problems if you do the same.
On the positive side you get a nice leather poofe!

I thought the Row 18 was blocked until airport check in as it is a Bulkhead? It is interesting that a travel agent can get these seats held for pre-booking, is this a new thing or has the travel agent got confused?

She called me back as she was booking them and had the seating plan up i asked for front row on the side which she said was unavailable on each side but said she could book the front row 3 seats in middle which i agreed to. I'm not sure if it makes a difference but i am flying with a 2 year old?

Interesting, the bulkheads are normally kept for people travelling with babies as this is the position for the skycots, but I imagine a 2 year old shouldn't make a difference. Maybe VS have changed their policy and now allow the DEF seats to be pre-selected.

I am a row 18 fan myself but really only the AC/HK two's, although if you are travelling as a 3 then I guess it will work well for you.

All bulkhead rows are held back and not available for pre-booking. Just wondering if the travel agent has simply requested them rather than actually booking them.

I rem the days of checking in a flight with nearly every passenger being told that they had the exit row booked by their travel agent [xx(]

That is what I was thinking, seems strange that a travel agent can get the seats when VS agents can't even allocate them. Might be worth the OP just querying this point with their agent so that it saves any potential hassle/embarrassment if they aren't pre-reserved correctly.

I agree, they are probably holding non-confirmed (HN) you can request any seat like that but there are no guarantees.

I personally would not sit in the middle of row 18, AB or HK is better than normal PE but I would say DFG is not as good.

Unless you are on an A343, where the legroom for these three seats is actually greater than 18 A&C and H&K, so worth grabbing if you want your legroom, and as these seats are less popular that the window pairs they are often available.

I have never flown on the 343 and I never knew that!!
I am now kind of tempted to try and find a 343 route just for fun but I know there would be an operational change and they would put a 346 on the route for that day!

Just checked with TA who said i have had confirmation of the seats they are first row in the middle of plane and she could see them on her screen! I then asked for confirmation of the row number to which she replied row 19 so you were all correct in thinking that the whole of row 18 are blocked. Silly me thinking that the TA would know the layout of every plane. Thankyou all for your help and sorry to have wasted your time. After some of your replies i think will keep row 19 and if i get lucky at the airport change to row 18 one of the pairs at side and one across or behind.

Recent PE bulk head seat for a 6'2' generally better as you can stand up and get out easier. however agree with the 'leg stretchers', I found the distance just that bit too short to be comfortable (ending up with legs in the air).
The 2 year old issue, might well benefit as the front area is better to let them fidgit in, without annoying those in front. ('snap' picture cards/ crayola magic paper/and scribbling books at the ready!)

We done the BA flight at similar time Christmas just gone and he feel asleep before take off and slept for about 6 hours of it but got a little bit uncomfortable in the BA bulkhead infant seat thing and woke up but thankfully just sat on my lap for the last hour looking at the inside of the plane! The flight back was a different story as it was like the Virgin one a day flight, he had a good sleep in his lovely big Club World seat woke up refreshed and decided he prefered first class. After having a look round at everything he settled down to watch a film, eat most of my steak and then a different activity or small present every hour or so kept him quiet. Hence i have decided never to waste my money travelling in Club/Upper again with him , i will save it for childless holidays.

I think you will also find that row 18 seats are narrower than standard due to the table stowed in the armrest. Also, I always avoid 19 A/C & H/K as there is no window on the 346's.

Glad you double checked and now know for sure, and you have not wasted our time at all, any more questions you have just fire away.

If you are in the slightest interested then I would actually choose row 20 instead of 19, with row 18 if I found that the people do usually recline with them not having the option to put their feet under the row infront, and whilst it doesn't eat into your legroom it does make it a little bit more tricky to get in and out of your seat without bothering your neighbour, but each to their own.
