OK ,so I didn't have access to http://www.saynoto0870.com on Friday when I made the call to VS. But come off it VS 6.24 for a 20 minute 58 second phone call is just not cricket[V]
Wouldn't mind so much if they had answered my query, but they couldn't AND I spent most of the time on hold!
As if the fuel surcharge wasn't enough of a rip off they get you with obscene phone charges too [:(!]

That works out at 30p/min. I guess that is from a mobile as BT only charge 6p daytime and 1.5p evenings, plus a 6p call setup charge.

Ah, so maybe it's my mobile phone provider that is ripping me off?
[:(!]

They may well be, but, that's a pretty standard tariff for daytime calls to an 0870 number from a mobile i think.

Thanks,
Sarah

Humph, rip off Britain[:(!]

In that case I apologise unreservedly to VS for my original comments[:#]- Fuel Surcharge is still a rip off though[:D][:D]

Thanks

VS could quite easily provide geographical telephone numbers so they are as much to blame.

They could, but given the margin made on tickets typically booked by those calling the 0870 numbers. Silver and Gold customers get lo-call/freephone access to CS and Reservations.

NOC you should have checked the forum before calling. I placed the link to saynoto0870.com in the clubhouse some time ago. All the geographical numbers for VS are there including the bosses office. It would have saved you £6.24. [:w]

VS's telephone contact system is generally a mess, even if you can beat it in a number of ways. I just tried to call Flying Company from the US, once more, the UK numbers don't work and the US Flying Company help line cannot assist me with a UK registered Flying Company account - it's all a bit maddening!

Bryan,
Yeah I knew about the saynoto0870 link but only had access to a mobile phone and no access to the low cost local call rate numbers[n]

Cheers

If I have to call a 0870 number on my mobile I do it via http://www.18185.co.uk. A 21 minute 0870 mobile call with them would have cost about £1.30. You have to dial a 020 access number followed by the 0870 number. I have assumed the 020 call cost would be included in your monthly inclusive calls package.

I also use them to call the USA at 0.5P per minute (fixed and mobile) plus a 4P connection charge.

Any if not AU, you'll be given the 0870 number to call. Costs you twice.

Had a chat with someone from Flying Club about this.
It seems that VS are having major problems with hoax callers on the 0800 number.
People ringing up and timewasting - going through the whole booking procedure but giving false information.

The move to charging for calls is an attempt to cut this down - it was starting to seriously affect the service.

A few idiots can do so much harm to us all...
