I know a lot of what is supposed to happen about the full UC experience from reading the TR's but they always seem to fall short of the full experience in some way, be it a small overlook of how things are set out or the downright awful flights that some people have endured, I hasten to add here that I am aware of the fact it doesn't just happen in UC.

So, from check in to disembarking what makes the UC experience perfect.

Thanks

Interesting question. [y] I believe it will be different for every person who answers. Most people on here know what to expect, and sometimes - in my experience- this is delivered.

The variable will be how many little things are less than perfect before the UC experience suffers and then how many more before it becomes a pain instead of a pleasure.

There are so many things that can go wrong: delays getting to airport, queues at check in, surly or inefficient security or check in agent, seats moved, bags too heavy, being sent to the shoe carnival even though your have done the UC security check. We aren't even in the Clubhouse yet.

There are any number of things that can go wrong in the Clubhouse, there can be problems boarding, delays taking off, problems with the service or meals or drinks or IFE on board. So many other things can go wrong. Awful, drunk or smelly fellow passengers can ruin your flight.

Immigration queues, lost bags, bad weather on arrival, the list of things that can go wrong is endless. Most of them are out of your control and a lot are out of the airline's control.

Personally I have been very lucky, I can take little problems in my stride without detracting from the overall enjoyment of the flight, but I have seen, and read about, others who will let the smallest problems apparently ruin the whole thing for them, and they are soon ranting for 'Kompunsayshun' [;)]

Ohhhhh what a great question! I cant wait to see how everyone reply's.

Well, now that I am officially an UC PAX (wooo hooo!!! [:D]) This is what I hope happens on our flight -

There is a seperate check in line at twilight check in with at least a wee bit of red carpet in front of the desk so I can feel speshial [:I]

We are greeted with a smile and all formalities are completed quickly so I can sit down in the Gatwick Hilton with a G & T and hope poor hubby doesnt pass out when he see's the cost of the drink.

Next morning breeze through fast track security without having to go through the shoe carnival and straight up to the Clubhouse, I would Love for that to take no longer than 15mins

Big smile as we are welcomed into the clubhouse (pull the kids to one side and warn them for the hundredth time that if they DARE mess about in here or act like brats then Grandma will be at Gatwick in 10mins flat to collect them and take them to her house and NO holidays for them)

I hope that the kitchen isnt having any malfunctions and there are bacon butties in abundance. I hope the waiter doesnt give me a snotty look because I order a glass of champagne at 7am [:I] I hope that my appointment at the spa hasnt been double booked/cancelled/not recieved or some other mess up and I get to be pampered.

After my treatment I hope the waiter doesnt give me another snotty look for ordering another glass of fizzy stuff. I hope that the playstations and tv are not broken so the kids will be kept entertained leaving me and hubby to sit back and relax.

I dont particularly care if there is a delay of up to 2 hours, gives me more time to enjoy the clubhouse, anything after that though would be cutting into holiday time in Jamaica.

I hope that when we are called for boarding we get to the gate and by some miracle they have 2 lines for boarding, one for UC & PE and one for Y (I know this is where the dream is going to be shattered and its going to end up like Christmas Eve in Tesco)

Once on board I hope the cabin crew are friendly and dont mind that we are in UC even though we are not posh. A pre flight drink of fizzy stuff and a quick mess with all the buttons and gizmos.

Once in the air I hope that we get offered more fizzy stuff and the IFE is working, dont run out of my meal choice and someone remembered to load the ice cream. It would be nice if we were offered drink re-fills without having to ask.

When we land I hope that we are first off the a/c after years of being down the back and always last off the flight it would be great for a change to be first off. Get to baggage reclaim and ALL of the bags have made it to our destination without my underwear hanging out of a burst zip or any wheels broken off the suitcases.

Well, thats how I HOPE it goes, you will all have to wait for my trip report to see if dream became reality [:D]

Simple the attitude and service from the VS staff. They usually make you feel 'special' and that is precious :-)

The FULL UC MONTY: (hoping this is what happens on our upcoming trip and that by putting this in writing I am not tempting The Three Daughters of Necessity. [:)] )

[**If you're actually paying full price, not upgrading, then you're picked up by limo to make your journey to the airport.]

We arrive at LAX, and the UC desk is staffed so we can check in early (and they let us.) We breeze thru security and on to the ANZ Koru Club which is not packed. We're called on time, turn left at the door, board, and a smiling FA points us to our seats. Another FA comes by with champagne and mimosas. Yes please! We are offered a VSNinjaª sleep suit, extra Cowshed goodies to go with our AMENITY KIT (that has magically morphed from the shoe bag to some VirginUltimateª bag because the FO pulled their heads out of their lower intestines on this one...) and we're shown the ins & outs of our UCS, and the IFE is already switched on. Menus are waiting for us in our UCS.

We change into our VSNinjawearª and our street clothes are stowed away in one of the closets. Our champagne is refilled. We take off as I am comfortably reclined in my lounger.

After the seatbelt sign is turned off new beverages are acquired and dinner orders taken. It's a new fall menu, and all the courses are marvelous! Everyone gets their request.

I sit back and tune into the Gerard Butler Channel on the IFE with a nice glass of single malt (shut up. A girl can dream.)

Ready for some zzzzs my lounger is turned into a bed, and I sleep like a baby. Waking refreshed I have some lovely breakfast, then hang at the bar having some bloody marys. Later it's afternoon tea, and finally we get ready for our descent. The last ten hours have been a joy.

We're let off first, make it to a deserted immigration, breeze thru, then collect our bags which are waiting for us having been taken off the aircraft first.

It's a gorgeous fall day and we're on the HEX in no time (since we're not paying full price for the ticket....)

On the return:

Arrive early for flight since we love the CH. UC check in is a breeze. We're routed to the new express private security channel, skip the shoes, and are in the CH in record time. Find a lovely seat by the window and have some wonderful food & champagne. Then it's time for my facial which is heavenly. Refreshed, I have more champagne. Flight is called on time, the UC line is empty, we turn left at the door another wonderful UCS experience begins all over again.

I'm sure I forgot something......

I would imagine the 'full' UC experience has to be on a J or D ticket, flying to/from LHR / LGW / JNB, so you can take in drive-through check-in, followed by a proper VS Clubhouse and then hopefully everything else that should happen when on board the aircraft. Of course, flying into LHR or LGW, you get a Revivals (or shared one) lounge to use if you arrive at the right time of the day, before taking your CDC car (if on a J or D ticket) home.

The above is just my take on what people mean by the 'full UC experience'.

bardgal, I hope your forthcoming trip from LAX is more like your expectation than our reality on the same route.

We arrived at LAX approx 1115 (straight from a cruise, so no real choice but to arrive early) and managed to nab one of the few uncomfortable benches to sit on and wait for check-in to open at 1330. Joined the UC check-in queue at 1330 only for the security lady to come out and swap the UC and PE queues around so everyone had to move. Waited while 3 groups of PE passengers were called forward to the PE desk and checked in before anyone was called to the UC desk.

Quickly through the fast-track security document check downstairs but then up the escalator and joined the throngs waiting for the full security and x-ray where there was no fast-track separation.

Straight into the welcome oasis of the Air New Zealand lounge. No-one at the desk and as soon as we turned the corner, dragon lady came rushing down calling out at us as if we had wandered in off the street. Once she saw our boarding cards she welcomed us, with a grimace. A couple of hours of peace in the very pleasant lounge. Later a member of VS staff came to call UC passengers to the flight, led us downstairs and towards the gate but when she met with the crowds around the boarding area, she simply abandoned us and everyone had to try and fight their way through to board.

Found our seats (5&6K, A340-600) and given a drink. Saw the passengers in the A&D area opposite being offered Ninja suits, and some changed into these before we took off. We were never offered these, and never offered the option of having the bed converted. Crew were friendly but we didn't seem to see the same one twice, with the result that some things (dessert, for example) were offered several times and others not at all (Ninja suits, bed conversion).

It was an okay flight, but for the UC price I think it should be more than okay. By comparison, our UC flights on MAN/LGW 747s have been excellent. And therein lies the issue, for me at least Ð a lack of consistency in the product. Obviously the different aircraft configurations don't help, as 14 passengers in a cabin is always going to seem more exclusive than 40+. But there should be no difference in the service offered onboard; the product should be consistent. It isn't difficult, it just needs someone within VS to be bothered enough to make it happen.

wraf137 - Thanks for the warning! I plan to ask for my NinjaSuitª the second I step on the plan. 'Small Ninja PJS please?' With a BIG SMILE. [:D]

I am sad that neither LAX flight arrives LHR in time to experience Revivals.

I'v had one of those delays, sat on the tarmac for just over 5 hours [:0] we were stuck in Y with both kids and it was hell. Some idiot had loaded the cargo inccorectly and the flight wasnt balanced, just as the kids finally dropped off to sleep they had to shift everyone to the back of the aircraft so we could take off, then 2 hours into the flight we all had to shift to the middle.

At least when we fly next time, if there is a delay while sitting on the tarmac I will be in a big comfy chair, flicking through a magazine with cabin crew re-filling my champers glass whenever its empty [;)]

As I remember it, they used to have UC on the upper deck only ex-LGW and there was no room for a bar. Additionally, these a/c had the older 747-100/200 small bubbles. It's been a long time!

Also check out the sofa on the front page - this was great, having a G&T and lounging about etc. They had seatbelts on the sofa too. ISTR a lady landing while sat on the sofa on one occasion.

And dare I mention the amenity kits? The inflight beauty therapists? Oops, I already did.

Cheers, Howard
