My (our) 20th wedding anniversary is next year (October) and I should have enough miles between my wife and I to go UC (200k).

Well for me that would mean West Coast USA with a jaunt to Vegas. Either LAX or SFO and then internal to LAS.Job done[:D]
I agree with DL (for the second time in two days [:D]') - SFO then a West Coast tour, a trip to the Napa Valley, or Vegas.
If you no real preference in destination, and want to maximise the UC experience, then it has to be a LHR destination for the Clubhouse, V-Port planes (hopefully) and Revivals. SFO also has the advantage of a great Clubhouse, despite the extra customers, and it is a wonderful city.

I have to echo Bill S's comments.
Clubhouse at LHR great. (Going to JFK in Dec economy, and willingly paid the extra to gain access to the Clubhouse through Virgin Holidays). Revivals lounge on return excellent as well.
The flight time flew past, enjoyed every minute of being in UC, (but it's ruined economy for me!)
San Fran and Napa Valley lovely to tour round, and also gives you an option to get to Vegas for a couple of days.
If you can find the extra miles, get the limo to/from the airport as well, the check in procedure is much nicer!

For me it would have to be a West Coast road trip - LAX or SFO to LAS or PHX including the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley etc.

If you're planning on going to Vegas or Phoenix they have their 'Monsoon' in July-August so you can get flash floods and the humidity goes up as well but you also get to see the desert 'in bloom' which can be quite stunning.
We did LA-Vegas-San Francisco last month and had a fantastic trip. We saw a spectacular thunder storm in Vegas one night as well which was better than all the neon down the strip.
October will be cooler and I suspect less frantic with the kids back at school.

Dont forget to try and book early and be flexible with your dates. There are only a limited number of reward seats on the most popular routes (especially during the peak season) so once you have decided where and when you want to go you may need to start checking availibility.

As your anniversary is in October that's what I'd go for.I'd recommend flying out of SFO (regardless of where you fly into) so you get the benefit of the SFO CH (might also calm Mrs Mikee's nerves).As Sarah has said you may need to be flexible with dates -LAX has two flights daily but SFO only has the one.

What about Chicago? A great city with lots to do, by the lake so some nice boat trips, and no long immigration queues compared to other cities.
Some great shopping and some great museums etc and not as brash as NYC. My only regret was not having enough time in the city.
And the place to stay... well Conrad Chicago was v.nice if you are a Hilton HHonors Member?
Don't forget though that the flight time Orlando is virtually the same as to SFO....

Hey, envious if you get to Japan, (on our wish list) Shanghai also a good hit on the cultural exposure thing, if not a little manic/polluted and getting westernised, but a worthy trip to remember -
How about SA, nice in the autumn, their spring. (Cape town well worth the visit).
I'd Skip Nigeria...
All running approx 12 hr flights (like SFO) so you'll get UC hrs similar to the sterile US trips.. (but would agree SFO a lovely city)
At the end of the day, depends what you're after... Personally somewhere a bit more unusual like Japan/ SA or China would be a preference- especially if Mr Miles is paying...

As far as Phoenix goes, October is the start of Snowbird season - that's when the people from colder states go into the Southwest for the winter months. You'll find higher hotel prices, less choice of rental cars, more expensive airfare (intra-US to PHX), and generally fewer first-class seats on flights into PHX. Snowbirds set up shop in the state until almost June.

That said, India can be a trial, non-shoppers can find Dubai boring, and you've already been Down Under. Still, you can find lots of places to go. More options than LAX or SFO will give you a better chance of getting lucky with the seat gods!
