I flew to JFK and then drove up to Niagara Falls.

It was about an 8 hour drive and I'd def do it again. Let me know if you need any more details.

How about Chicago? Fly in and straight out of ORD to Niagra...

Directions from EWR show it to be 30 minutes faster. *Cough*

True I remember thinking when we were stuck in serious traffic on the Bronx Expressway and the Van Wyck Expressway that EWR would have been easier but the timings on the JFK flights were much more suitable ie. VS3 lands at lunchtime so can do most of the drive in daylight.

However if you try driving from JFK either cross town or down then across to Jersey after landing around lunchtime...it could take you till evening to get to where you'd be after landing at EWR on a later flight!

Well, maybe not that bad, but basically JFK is a horrible airport to get to and is on the other side of NYC than Niagara Falls. It once took me 3 hours to get from JFK to EWR, driving!

But, if you're coming off an 8hr flight from London landing at midday here, you would have had to be at LHR at like 6am GMT, so even landing at lunchtime here, you'll have been up since around midnight at least EST. Basically, you'll be tired so an 8 hour drive up to the canadian border might not be do-able on that same day! Personally I'd stay around NYC that night then drive up the next day.

And you'll love the trip - just make sure you stay on the Canadian side of the falls, much better!

If driving and flying into EWR whats the recommended hotel nearby?

Me and the present Mrs Treelo flew to BOS Spring 2007 and, after a few days in that FABULOUS city, picked up a hire car and drove to Niagara. Took our time, did a bit of sightseeing on the way and had an overnight stop. Not too bad a trip and a fair bit to see on the way if you get off the Interstate, but it depends if time is tight [:)]

I can't really recommend a hotel since I've never stayed at one, but surely the most convenient one is the Newark Airport Marriot. It's the closest one to the airport as it's right inside the loop road. But if you go to this part of EWR's website you can see a maps of close hotels.
