My wife and i are travelling UC on the 30th of this month to DXB[:D] and wanted to know if i could pay for the limo service to pick us up straight to the CH without having to use 12,500 FC miles in the process, and because the tickets were not unrestricted i dont qualify automatically anyway[:#].

cheers

I have never used the CDC service, but from previous threads on the same subject, the only cars allowed to use the drive through check in are those booked through Virgin Atlantic - either with qualifying UC tickets or with miles.

The company used is Tri-star. It is possible to book a car direct with them, but they will drop you outside the terminal and you will use the normal UC check in.

ISTBC but limo / CDC is only available if you are:

- travelling UC on a J or D class ticket
- have booked your UC trip with all miles in which case you can drop another 12.5k for the car service and drive through check in

I don't believe there are any exceptions to this.

Does the 12.5K cover 4 trips, i.e to LHR, Destination to Hotel, Hotel to Destination Airport, LHR to home ?

1 - i.e. to LHR

That is my understanding too. Having just re-read Alex' OP, I should have added that, but was just trying to make the point that paid CDC s can't use the drive thru check-in even if the same company is used. [:)]

Not to be nitty, but I tend to fly UC on a G which was upgraded from a Y,B,L using miles. The agents invariably offer me the CDC option.

any miles based ticket (ie all miles or Econ / PE to upper with miles) will allow you to book a CDC I believe

Yes that is correct, any G ticket however you have bought it allows you to spend 12.5k miles for a Limo, apart from flights ex MAN as due to some problem/agreement with the limo company they can't/won't allow it.

I think the t&c are more restrictive on CDC booked using the miles option, e.g. limiting the range to 'Home Counties' whereas the range for J or D ticket is 'anywhere south of, and including, Lincolnshire'...

Nick is right if you pay for the transport yourself: it's not worth me blowing 12.5k miles on a car from Central London...

I almost always pay for a TriStar or Limobike when on a Z/G ticket. Before the new drive through check in opened, if you spoke nicely to the driver and explained you were UC, they would use the drive in check in (although strictly you shouldn't ever have done for Z's - rules you see). It had to be TriStar or Limobike 'cos they're they were only ones insured to use the facility apparently. Rules you see. But no one minded.

That minor little work around no longer works. Rules ain't it. Apparently due to the semi secure location of the new drive thru check in they need to know 24 hours in advance who you are. Rules is rules. And yes I've tried letting them know beforehand that I'm on the same product Virgin uses but paid for by myself, but computer says no. Rules don't you know. Does not compute. I was turned away in May on the back of a Limobike. But it's hardly a chore going through the 'normal' Z list channel. Thems the rules. I don't make 'em.

Cheers, Howard

Hopefully with the increased capacity they will bring back the option to allow those on a Z or G to pay for their own limo and still use drive thru.

I don't think they should Mat.

Enough people want to try to use it with their own arrangements, so it obviously IS a key differentiator in service levels. The J or D only thing therefore *is* working, in terms of increasing service offering to higher fare paying passengers.

The last thing I'd want to see is the CDC check-in area turn into a taxi rank [n]
