Hi all

I wonder if someone could tell me how to go about sorting these two issues out please.

I recently took 2 flights on Hawaiian airlines, San Francisco to Honolulu and Honolulu to Las Vegas. As advised I produced my Virgin flying club card whilst checking in for both flights, but to be honest with you, on both occasion the check in clerk didn't seem to take much notice and hence I have not received any miles for these flights to date. I have made a request to Virgin and sent them my boarding passes for both flights, but I've noticed on the Virgin web site that you should sent either your ticket stub or E-ticket receipt. I don't have any of these as the paper tickets were taken at the time of boarding and only the boarding passes returned. Will this prove to be a problem?

While in San Francisco we stayed at the Grand Hyatt on Union Square, again while checking in I've made a point of producing my Virgin flying club card but again not much notice taken by the hotel clerk and again no miles have been posted. To date I have not made a claim for these miles as I only have checkout receipt. The receipt does contain all the details of our stay. Concerning this, should I send this to Virgin and make a claim for the missing miles using this receipt.

I hope I've explained myself clearly enough and thanks in advance for any advice.

Thanks [y]

Unfortunately, claiming partner miles is often an issue.

We have become used to having miles for Virgin flights credited almost instantly, but that doesn't always appear to be the case still with partners.

I have found in the past that persistence (and the correct paperwork) does pay off - eventually. I have had flights creditted by sending boarding stubs with full details of the flight.

If you provide as much information as you can, plus as much supporting documentation as you have, you should get your points. Also, remember to take copies if you are sending originals to VS. They are very good at returning original documentation, but it is better to be safe than sorry.

Partner miles can be a nightmare. I am just having to fill in the form and send it off for a couple of stays with Hilton. Usually the miles get credited fine but for some reason this time it hasn't happened, annoying but I'm not going to let them get away without giving me them!

I have a similar question to Trev.

Our recent trip to the Far East resulted in stays at the MO in both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

As these were last minute bookings, I got a very good Expedia special rate. Would this be a qualifying rate to earn miles? If so and I were to claim, all I have is an Expedia Email confirmation and receipts from hotels for additional items (internet/phone). Would these be sufficient to prove my stay?

We also stayed at the Harbour Plaza in Hong Kong (twice). This hotel is part of the Summit group (1,500 miles per stay). Does anyone have any experience of claiming miles from this hotel group?

Thanks

In my experience bookings made through 3rd parties (Expedia, Travelocity, agents including VH etc) are not usually eligible for miles/points etc. These rates are usually heavily discounted and usually have a disclaimer somewhere which says they will not earn any miles/ points etc.
The bottom line is that if a booking is not made with the hotel group directly (be it by telephone, website etc)then they usually won't be miles/points/whatever earning.
Some organisations (such as Starwood) will price match (even against Expedia et al)and where I've found a good deal elsewhere I've asked them to match the price. This way I get the good deal, the benefit of the miles and the bonuses that come with having some status with the company.

From the Expedia website

Award points and airline mileage may not be awarded when booking an Expedia Special Rate hotel.

What is interesting is the use of the word 'may' Does that mean it is discretionary or does 'may not' mean that it will not happen?

Perhaps I've been unlucky HL,but based om my experiences it has not happened (even when I've provided my FC details and preferred guest details). The only thing that has earned me miles and points on this type of booking is the money then spent on room service, bar etc. That's why I now try and price-match if I can.

Same experience with Starwoood SPG points. If you don't book with Starwood directly, you only get SPG points on hotel services and nothing for your stay (not even qualifying nights ;o( )

Thanks for your input.

I have to claim for my Air New Zealand flights, so will also submit forms for the hotel stays. Got to be worth a try.

I stayed at the Hilton Dubai Creek last year booked through Expedia on one of their Special Rates and on checking out gave them my Flying Club number. I honestly didn't expect any miles but ended up receiving around 800 points for the stay.

Hi All

Just a quick update...............

Miles from the flights taken with Hawaiian Airline have now been credited to my account, well done Virgin [y], a really quick response following my letter and enclosing my boarding passes.

Still struggling to get the Hyatt hotel miles, no one seemed to have a clue when I called the Hyatt customer service [:?], might need to call the flying club and get some advice on how to resolve this one.

Thanks for all the advice [y]

Cheers
