On the flight before last I was in economy , but I could definitely smell a cooked breakfast from somewhere!! I had just woken up and we were all starving. When the muffin came round my daughter burst into tears!! It was awful!
I am now booked for PE to MCO from LGW on 27th April and have just heard that the PE offering is a muffin and a cookie for breakfast!!! Surely Virgin can do a little better than this and i reckon there should be a petition etc....you can tell i feel strongly can't you!!
I have not heard of anyone who has enjoyed it and the collective groan when it arrives is deafening so please, please, please sort this out Virgin as even prisons and detention centres (I watch the documentary channels!!) have better breakfasts!

P.S can I sneak food onboard in my bag??

I always pack some food for the flight whether I am PE or UC.

Thats the spirit!! I have never tried that as I worried it would be taken off me at security , but will try next time!

We flew PE home (MCO-MAN) a few weeks ago and we were given a hot bagel with egg and cheese for breakfast!

I have never once had a problem. I usually take some southern fried chicken, fruit, and sweeties.

Never have security even queried the contents of my packed lunch.

Only thing I will say is to be mindful to trash all the food you are prohibited from taking into foreign countries whilst on board. In the US I have seen bins, once you clear immigration but before customs where you can trash prohibited produce, however I prefer to trash my onbaord and then double check at those bins.

Bon Apetit !!

Whoaa! Where did that come from, sounds almost acceptable over the totally pathetic offering normally slopped out!

You could always fly with an airline that allows you to cook your own ...
'The fire started while passengers onboard were cooking with a portable butane stove.... not unusual, as Middle Eastern airlines are often willing to accommodate their Muslim passengers' needs....'

So long as I'm not on the same aircraft.

I have to agree that the cookie and muffin breakfast is dire. I've said it before and i'll say it again ... croissants and OJ in PE for breakfast please!

Thanks,
Sarah

It must be an East coast thing, as the PE breakfast from SFO is ok, but the ones from IAD are pretty poor. I've not flown back from NY or FL with Virgin, and Boston was Feb 07.

Pastries and fruit would be better than the cereal bar or cookie. I always have to remind them to bring the fruit out.

That hot chesse croissant thing is disgusting, and the smell is even worse. What is wrong with fresh fruit and OJ - cannot be much more cost that that 'thing' they serve now!

I too always take snacks with me, especially when flying down the back.

There's no way I can last between meals when flying to HKG for example, without a scooby snack or two to keep me going inbetween.

The smell of bacon coming from the J galley is rather annoying when your not flying in J.

Ban the muffin! It's alright for a snack/elevenses but not for Breakfast. [V]

As for cereal bar!!! what wrong with having a little variety size box of cereal and a small carton of milk.[:?]

Didn't they used to use a Rustlers pack like that? Although I think it was yoghurt rather than milk?

No doubt aid by some evil so and so wafting the smell down the cabin [:I]

I agree, the muffin/cereal bar is a bit mean for PE and makes me even hungrier. Some fruit or even a yoghurt would be better.

Nothing. Continental do this in Economy (or did the last time I took an early flight with them, a couple of years back, and I don't think they have changed this). In fact, they had a tray (which somehow seems beyond VS too right now) with: Cereal box, carton of milk, apple or banana, muffin.

Just making the effort of a presentation, rather than chucking an egg McS*@%ty at you and a cereal bar, and handing out coffee in a paper cup, seems worthwhile, at least in PE.

This is PE. You might have someone who paid 1.5k to 2k pounds for that seat. How are they going to feel when you dump this crap on them? Badly, is how.

Understand the logistics of providing a different breakfast for PE might be tricky, and the spend on the high side. But, really, as has been said over, and over, and over, this is a ridiculous show for the product. For UK-based fliers going to the US (the majority biz segment on VS), this is the last thing they experience of the Premium Economy product on their trip. I've seen folks pick the lot up, and chuck it back to flight attendants. It is a marketing nightmare.

Exactly MM, after my first flight in PE my then contact at VS called me to ask how the flight was, I told her it was great, except for the food, as time has passed VS has taken steps to seperate the food from what is offered in Y, but the breakfast option is still a joke.

We flew back From LAS last week in PE and were offered the Ham/egg muffin or the cheese/egg bagel, The Ham and egg was awful and my wife thought the same about the egg/cheese, It just tasted of the wrapper. It came with a cereal bar which again, my wife said was not good, it contained nuts so I couldnt testify to it.
That was however the only bad thing I could say, flight and crew were excellent

Flew PE from MCO, and the egg cheese bagel was excellent for a quick morning snack, and OJ was really nice fresh stuff too, better than the terrible muffin.

Well , I am going to pack something for the trip now...but what? Chocolate is no good for brekkie and I have my dad and daughter with me. Its going to be over halfway through the flight too so it can't be something that mings in my bag after a couple of hours....hhhhmmmm decisions decisions.

It's all about money isn't it. Most of the carriers don't care as long as they're ripping you off, that's why Virgin America don't charge anything for the 1st bag under 70lb and American Airlines charge you $50 for your 1st bag if it's over 50lb. Southwest don't charge ANYTHING for the 1st or even 2nd bag!! So what's going on?

I remember in economy on VS when you would get yoghurt, fresh fruit (remember the grapefruit and orange segments in the plastic pot?) the muffin (lol) OJ, and it was just ok, not ideal. Now what's that crap they serve up, it's so greasy you get heart disease, dvt blocked up nostrils for the price of a return ticket.

I remember once the FA coming round asking us if we'd like some fruit, the choice was a banana or an apple, the lady next to me said:

'Are they real?'

All the charter airlines seem to manage a hot breakfast without too much problem (ok - its not exactly Michlin star, but hey!). Why cant VS do the same?

Many cariers don't even give a full hot breakfast even in business class - I know that BA doesn't on it's North American routes (you get a hot bacon roll, if you are lucky, before landing in the UK...). Don't know about Virgin: it used to be a choice of a full English, hot pancakes or bacon roll when coming back from the US in UC, that may have changed...

Personally could never eat much for breakfast arriving back in the UK - because you have only eaten dinner about 5/6/7 hours ago (if flying from the East Coast).
