Hi there

This is my first post after reading all the other helpful threads on here for a while!.....I wonder if someone could help me, I'm looking to book flights for myself and 3 friends to LA, However I want to upgrade just my tickets to PE on the return leg but I know if I click the upgrade button online it tries to upgrade everyone....My question is if I go ahead and book all 4 tickets then give them a ring to just add PE to my ticket would they do it? I really dont want to book mine seperately

Thanks in advance

It should be possible, although it'll depend on what type of Economy class you're booked into. You can also link separately-booked itineraries if you still want to do the upgrade online.

Thank you for the reply,

How do you link seperately booked itineraries online? The return class would Q according to the website

You'd need to call Virgin once you have the confirmation numbers to link the itineraries.

Q is one of the restricted economy classes, so if it's allowing you to do it online, I suspect that will be easier to book that one separately and upgrade online rather than booking the four tickets and trying to move one of them to PE.

I would maybe suggest making the whole booking by giving FC a call. I am guessing that you don't want to upgrade using miles and just pay for PE on your return flight? By calling FC you will be able to tell them exactly what you want and they will be able to sort it much quicker than you trying to mess about with the quite restrictive online booking system.

Normally I'd agree, Neil, but if this is a Q-base fare with - I suspect - some kind of PE upgrade offer attached, phoning the call centre might end up a little frustrating. Although I suppose it depends on how VAA are calculating that PE upgrade - it may be as simple as the difference between the Q and the lowest available PE one way for that particular flight.

Thanks everyone for the responses, However I had already booked all 4 flights under one booking by the time I had read them...

I just called reservations after being on hold for 20 mins only to be met by a guy who could not speak nor understand english very well....I think I was directed to an indian call center? anyway he eventually understood what I wanted to do and put me on hold for another 15 mins, Finally got back to me but not only do they want the £390 upgrade cost (which is what is offered online) they also want another £50 change fee and £12 tax...the tax fine! but charging me £50 to book the upgrade on the phone rather than online is stupid. I told the guy that when I log onto my booking it offers me the upgrade minus the £50 charge, he didnt understand me so I just gave up! And now when I try and log onto my booking online it doesnt work??!!??

Any chance if I call FC they will be a little more helpful!? I mean I would happyily book my upgrade online if it didnt try and upgrade everyone at once! Seems like a silly system to charge me extra for their lack of online services!?

A little update, I foudn my booking by loggin on under my FC details...only thing is they seem to have detached me from my other booking, so my friends are under the old ref number and I have a new one....which worked out fine as I just upgraded online minus the £50 and £12 tax they wanted to charge me on the phone!!

So now I have 2 ref numbers....I can get these linked if I call reservations?
