Hi V-Flyer members,

Just to let you know that we, (Virgin Atlantic), have soft-launched our VAA fan page on Facebook.

The aim really is to provide a VAA managed 'space', to allow fans to interact directly with VAA and vice-versa, to interact with our customers/fans. It's also a great platform to enable us to run competitions, polls and provide 'just for fun' content.

We haven't communicated our fan page on our website yet. We thought a good place to start would be to our V-Flyer members. We know that you are loyal customers and frequent flyers.....it would be good to have your feedback and support.

I think it is a very good idea, Facebook is so popular and it is important for companies to keep in touch with their customers. It is good to see the V-Flyer banner on your page too[y]

I do hope that you will also interact with us here on V-Flyer and not just 'fans' on your Facebook page. We are full of some very loyal customers and it would be very good for us, and VS to have your regular input.

First of all a warm welcome to V-Flyer. I hope you find the site useful and hope that the Facebook project Ð particularly the link up with V-Flyer is a huge success.

In my opinion if the airline is seeking customer feedback in any form then this is a plus. You only have to read back through the many threads here to see that a lot of constructive advice has been offered to the airline in a large number of threads. In fairness, a lot of the V-Flyer feedback has been acted on. But an awful lot, such as the food quality, appear to have been completely ignored. Other common comments, such as the two tier service offered when the LHR planes are compared to the LGW/MAN planes were about to be addressed, but the economic mess got in the way of that.

I wonder though, what you are aiming to achieve by the Facebook experiment. First of all, tagging it 'fan' site gives the impression that you are looking for sycophantic praise, rather than constructive criticism, but that is just my perception.

Also, I may be on my own here, but to me there is something not right about an anonymous member posting as 'Virgin Atlantic Airways', but referring to themself in the first person, especially when offering opinions about an issue.

It just doesn't come across right. For example, here you flit from I to we within the thread, and in this thread, you do it within a single post, when you reply to me.

I would much sooner see an identifiable spokesperson posting on behalf of VS, rather than one or a group of people purporting to be the airline.

As I say, I hope the whole venture is a roaring success, and that the feedback Ð both good and bad, is taken on board.

Is Facebook being used solely as a 'just for fun' marketing tool or a way to hear feedback from passengers? Personally, I'd hope that comments, negative and positive, would be passed on through the departments - is this the case?

I do think VS have one of the best marketing and spin departments around however they just seem to be paying lip service to their customers most of the time. I don't believe they will take any comments seriously from their customers. Feedback from customer service has always been a 'yes, we care, now have some miles and go away' approach, in my opinion, mostly in a cut 'n' paste reply.

The reply from VAA on here avoids answering Neil's question.

I guess time will tell, I'd like to be proved wrong.
