Flying out to SFO in a couple of weeks on the new 09:30 flight time.. Check in at 06:45 so we're in the lounge by 07:00 - What are the social perception impacts of drinking lots of champagne around the pool table at this time of day....??

Think it may be an entertaining flight!

Hello Liam. I'll leave it to other, more hedonistic types on here to advise you as to the proper decorum of early morning drinking in the Clubhouse, but I'm pretty sure you'll find the general consensus to be 'go for it!'...

It's a necessity!!! Remember, many of those in the CH you'll never see again so they are not likely to remember you as the champagne-swilling oik playing pool [;)]

Just be sensible as getting plastered may mean you having to go through check-in all over again the next day, with a honking great hangover. [:)]

Haha - being a rugby player I'm used to long drinking days and can normally hide the resulting effects relatively well.. Slightly concerned about my travelling companion as he has the joy of an economy seat to look forward to after the lounge...[:$]

Working in the airport with a team of guys actually at T3 means I can't be too obviously 'merry' as I pass them on the way to the plane.. ;)

Why not simply start drinking heavily the evening before? That way I am relatively sure that no embarrassment considerations will be factored into your thought process! Enjoy the champers and have a good flight.

Hmm, what is the record for the first champagne and first mojito being served in the clubhouse, something like 0700:12secs and 0701 I bet [:D].

In a world of global travelling, time zone changes render such concerns academic.

If you fancy a drink, have one.

Jeez... life's too short to worry about such things! :-)

Drinking first thing in the morning? Scandalous! But ... you'll find you are certainly not alone. I usually have tea and toast to start with before i hit the Mojito's but I have seen many, many people knocking back Champagne and spirits shortly after 7am. There is always the excuse that you have been up for hours as you are travelling so its almost elevenses to your stomach [:)]

Thanks,
Sarah

You might want to make the most of it whilst you are in the Clubhouse....

I was in the CH before the 9.20 departure to MIA a few weeks ago and decided to forego the champagne at that early hour.... when they ran out of champagne after my first glass onboard, that day, I wish I had drunk one or two in the Ch beforehand (http://www.v-flyer.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=26435)!

I don't drink before the sun has gone over the yardarm but I also take the view when in the clubhouse first thing, that it is over the yardarm somewhere in the world [:w][}:)]

If anything, I'd say champagne is a tad conservative a drink to be going for ... it's not like you are getting the best of the best, so hit the liquor, whatever's your poison. And, SFO is a long flight, plenty of time to sleep it off a bit, then have more at the bar on board.

I'd be a bit annoyed at the pullback of the SFO flight departure time from 11am to 9:30, in fact, as it seriously cuts into drinking and other activities in the CH. Lucky for me next time I'll be there the missus will be back to SF, while I will be on the BOS flight, so I'll have to get there by 7, for a 7-hour stint in the CH... now that'll take some planning.

Well done LiamRugby for asking the question!![^]

I am in the same position, flying VS19 on the 30th, and have been wondering what to do about drinking SO early... Therefore, I'm very glad you asked the question, and I am relieved to read the light-hearted responses...[8D] Not that it really matters to me personally as I don't actually drink (by that I mean I've had two glasses of champagne in as many years!) but my travelling companion enjoys a sherry...[:p]

I've used some miles to have the Virgin Car collect me and my friend (who is travelling Economy) and whilst I've flown UC many times, its the first time I used the Car service so I'm REALLY looking forward to it now!![:D]

Personally, I believe that one maintains one's civilised meign when one drinks a Buck's Fizz, a Bellini or a Bloody Mary in the morning. A full-on cocktail at that hour is a bit brash in appearance and thus sullies one's good reputation.

That said, pipping into the bog for a tug off a flask of Jagermeister is also acceptable for the gentleman.
