Agreed, as does everyone then have the necessity of living with the consequences of their opinion. To say, when working for any business, that your's is unsafe when it is not is just dumb (unless a serious whistle blower highlighting bad practice or illegality). In this case, the person stupid enough to make such a public claim might be regretting it when he or she realises that they signed a contract ...

First of all, I would like to thank the person on facebook that asked VS for public comment, what a brilliant move by that person [y] [:w]

Well I do have to agree with their statement, except for the clean part of it, as has been reported on here there are times when it is clear that not enough time was given to the ground staff to get the plane clean.

Other than that, I get the feeling that these people will be looking for new jobs.

I've just heard the story on the 5 Live news bulletin - again mentioning disciplinary action for those involved. I wonder how many of the papers will be carrying the story tomorrow...

I am listening to a different radio station and heard a similar report - infact all staff involved had reportedly been suspended from their duties pending investigation. If true, pleased to hear Virgin Atlantic are taking this extremely seriously - safety is not a matter to be taken lightly. Interesting to find out what the eventual penalties will be ?

I think the moral of this tale is think before you post in a supposedly private site. There are ways and means...

In the meantime, tonight's news headlines..

Economy given boost by Virgin Atlantic suddenly recruiting new cabin crew for Gatwick.

Was one of the main stories on both Radio 1 and a local independent radio news I've heard this morning too. Unfortunately it looks like this story is now in the public eye, something I imagine Virgin will be furious about and can only be worse news for those involved.

OK, they were very very silly boys and girls, absolutely. But I think that point has been made to death already.....

The chavs line: bang out of order.

So the Vegas and Orlando flights are more holiday makers than business travellers (demanding in different ways I guess), and I'm sure we ALL get talked about behind our backs, but on public forums? A bit naughty.

But is this the first time disparaging remarks have been made about the aircraft in question?? (Don't worry, they're aeroplanes, they don't have feelings and I'm pretty sure they can't hear us).

No.

There are regular posts on here and other forums decrying the dated IFE, general cleanliness, lack of refurb etc etc etc.

Amongst the newest in the fleet? Please. You all know these were bargain basement equipment from an order that another airline cancelled. Hardly shows a commitment to the routes does it? (I do like the way Virgin have replaced the word 'ordered' with 'acquired brand new', very clever.)

The IFE IS amongst the oldest in the fleet. The seats ARE amongst the tattiest in the fleet (and being one of the aforementioned chavs I've only flown the economy cabin, those UCs with their gold cards must be apopleptic!)

So before we snatch the opportunity to jump on our high horses and get all defensive over our precious Virgin, just remember the subject matter isn't news. We've all heard it / said it before.

Who knows, they might even get the message now and fit V:Port to Vegas!!!

BUT they were very very silly boys and girls and should have their legs slapped and sent to bed with no telly.[V] You tell 'em!!![^]

Hey that safety bit was a bit worrying though eh????[:0]

You have countered your entire argument in one sentence. IMHO the death trap comments are the entire crux of this. Talking of surviving trips when the planes have been passed time and time again, plus Virgin's excellent safety record.

The rest of the stuff - the filthy planes, the poor IFE etc. has been said on here time and time again. If Virgin think there are no problems in these areas then they are only kidding themselves.

With regards to the Chav comments, maybe that was a bit OTT, certainly not ALL LGW pax fit this criteria, but I wouldn't like to say that none do. [;)]

Thanks for the response Nick.

I'm with you on the safety thing, believe me (I was trying to be facetious by tagging it on the end there as an apparent minutiae). Let's hope customers treat these allegations with the contempt they deserve. Virgin, as pretty much all UK airlines, have a safety record bettered by few.

But the other allegations? Guilty as charged I'm afraid!!!!

They were still brand spanking new aircraft.Flying to St Lucia on one of the 5 just after delivery what a difference from the old 747-200 clunkers that they replaced. Can anyone remember the horror that was UC on the upper deck 747-200 LGW fleet.

Bargain basement? When you're able to step in and buy $200m+ planes on a huge discount because their original purchaser pulled out, it's a bad thing?

It was a masterstroke in my book. Nothing to do with commitment - they could have carried on with the -200 classics for longer. As JP said, I remember UC and PE on those planes. Give me the cancelled Alitalia fleet any day of the week.

Never a bad thing I guess, but not as good as ordering equipment to your own spec to meet the requirements of your own customers. (All those Italians flying from Gatwick to Orlando must be so grateful for the instructions on how to flush the toilet!!!)

Isn't that what normally happens, unless you want to do things on the cheap?

Also, if it really was such a masterstroke, why wasn't it mentioned in Virgin's press release?

Come on, lets not get all precious about these crates!!!
