I came across this interesting piece on Time online, My friend Steve Fossett

When I look back at my friendship with Steve, I realize we were very different people, but there were many things that we had in common. Steve put it best when he told me, 'People often assume I am a thrill seeker, but I am not. I do not enjoy roller coasters, and you won't find me bungee-jumping... It is a disadvantage that my pursuits are inherently dangerous. A large part of my effort is to reduce the risk.'

Given Richard's experience at the Palms I bet he wishes he followed Steve's advice. [;)]

Back in the summer, I was reading the Las Vegas Review Journal and there was mounting speculation that Fosset had faked his 'death'.

Several items within the story seemed to jump out to me. They claimed he was flying a type of plane he was known not to like, his GPS watch and first aid kit were left behind, which they claimed he always had with him.

There were other suggestions within the article, that I cant clearly remember.

I think I read about this 'fake death' on the same day I was reading about the canoeist who came back from the dead, so maybe I am putting a little too much weight behind this possibility.

Apparently wreckage of a plane that may be his has now been spotted. Hope it brings an end to this for his family - not a good one, but perhaps an end.

It's just been announced on the tv (here in USA)that the DNA analysis of the bones found confirms they are the remains of Steve Fossett. It also said the bones had been chewed.

A sad end to one of aviations last pioneers.

At least the finds will give his family and friends some closure.
