I always thought that the name on a ticket was allowed to have mis spellings, I am sure I have flown once with a slightly mis-spelled name however tonight on manage my booking I found this
'For security reasons it is absolutely essential that the name on your booking, ticket and passport are exactly the same.

If they are not you will be unable to board the flight. Please enter all passenger names exactly as they appear in the passports. This rule also applies to marriage or maiden names.

If a mistake has been made you can amend the name to reflect the correct spelling in the passport, up to 2 hours before the flight is due to depart. However you cannot transfer the ticket to another person. To amend the name on your ticket please contact your travel agent or our contact centre.

There will be a charge of 30 to amend each name. '

30 to amend a mistake from an indian call centre seems a bit harsh!

Your name in your booking/on your ticket MUST match EXACTLY with your name on your passport. I think up until know there has been some flexibility with 'small' spelling errors which has allowed notes to be placed on your booking explaining the correct spelling, as long as it does not change the name. I understand now there is no flexibility allowed, and the names have to COMPLETLY match.

I would ALWAYS advise that you spell your names phonetically, as so many names can be spelled a number of ways....also, why do you assume that you would be paying £30 to amend a mistake made by an indian call centre? You would be surprised to know that so many errors are made by people booking online, not only wrong dates, wrong destinations but the names can be totally wrong aswell.

I am sure that the genuine mistakes will not be charged for.

You should never need to give your middle name for your ticket. You are required to provide it for APD (and ESTA I imagine too when that takes over).

I've never had my middle name on any airline booking.

There's actually no where to add your middle name anyway when booking online with VS which controdicts what VS are asking when they want your name on the booking to match exactly what's on your passport [:?]

Actually when I checked in at Heathrow last week this was picked up and I was told that they would change it free of charge this time but to get it ticketed correctly next time.

I guess they are clamping down.
