Not unexpected really considering the new materials being used and the complexity of gluing them together.

Perhaps the temporary replacements will be the much-mentioned 747-800's

That would be great - esp if the 747-8's are like this

Some nice features there, but lets be honest, it will be seats, seats and more seats.

I do like the tank. UC lobster/fish tank? Choose your dinner as it swims/scuttles around? [:D]

Intresting, thanks for the link Nick.

If they go for any A/C other than the 748, VS will need ETOPS operational certification sooner rather than later. How long does it take an airline to get ETOPS?

except only 2 lobsters would be loaded and they would have to save 1 for the in bound leg.

I thought VS were going to take 77W's at a reduced price for compensation ?

VS needs some eggheads in its plane ordering department, or needs to stop SRB from opening his gob. There are still 346s on the order book with Airbus, 380s that were deferred before Airbus announced delays so VS screwed over the chance of compensation (both orders VS will probably have to pay compensation for to Airbus if they cancel, or perhaps they'll convert these to 350s instead), now the 787 delays - well at least they're talking compensation.

And really, apart from fleet replacement, what is VS going to do with all these planes? With the current economic climate launching new routes is going to be difficult for some time, they've strategically screwed up any expansion at Heathrow - Manchester anyone (would be good ... but all the usual arguments apply). Would't it be better to get Boeing monetary compensation and sit on it?

A pity they didn't take the much rumoured A330's a while ago!!!!!

What are they going to end up doing, probably operate the same routes as now, just with 77W's and 789's, maybe and I stress maybe 380's on the MCO routes where they can pack in 600 and NRT where there are slot controls.

That article points out a far bigger concern... the exchange rate to the dollar is far more worrying... apparently $10.3m is now worth £6.6bn.
Oh - and I see Qantas have rebranded to Quantas.

Do you have a source for this as the QANTAS website makes no mention?
