Hi [:)] - We're off to Sydney [8D] with a seven month old next week [B)] and I can't find out what we're allowed to take on board so given it's 22 hours are we allowed to take enough food and milk for her?

If not, apart from her cries keeping the other passengers awake, will VA provide anything to help her?

Sorry if this has been asked before but the VA website doesn't help very much and search isn't working.

Thanks

How do you plan to transport the milk ? Is it powdered ?

If so, no issues from my experience.

If it's already pre-made, in the past they have asked us to test it by drinking it.

It's my experience that children do pretty good on the plan once it's up, climbing and particulalrly landing can be tough due to the air pressure changes.

Here is the advice from the BBC, back in Aug 2006 when all this liquid restrictions kicked off.

Luton's airport has a good section on advice when traveling with Children and the need for food / drink.

I've always found Virgin CC very helpful when we have been traveling with infants or when my wife was heavily pregnant.

Have a good trip.

We are also back at the stage of travelling with an infant so can sympathise. We usually take 1 prepared bottle with us through security which we need to taste[:$]along with any baby food you want to take, but for on board we just take the formula and the crew will prepare the hot water. Never had a problem on any airline with this request.

Always take a spare soother as well[;)]
Best of luck[:)]

As ukcobra mentioned its tough on kids ears when taking off or landing so make sure you have a bottle ready and make sure they drink it when climbing or descending. If not then you will have the poor thing screaming and you wont be very popular.[n]

I hope all goes well on such a long flight.[:D]

Hi

We recently travelled from LHR with our 6 month old and had exactly the same questions.
You can ring the branch of Boots that is after security and get them to put aside ready made formula cartons and anything else you need and then collect it when you get there.
The problem with trying to take foods & liquids thru security is that even if they let you take it thru after tasting, you then have to use the opened cartons/jars within a certain amount of time and for a long flight thats not an option.
We took some powdered formula with us but didn't end up using it.

We gave our little one his bottle as we took off and then had enough jars and some snacks for the flight. The only problem we had was that there were not scissors on board to open the carton, but a set of keys did the trick eventually.
Another tip are is to take disposable bibs, mush easier than carrying around dirty bibs and washing them.

Our son was brilliant and everyone commented on how well behaved he was.

Good luck !
Hope that helps
