Hi Gill,

Not sure I understand your question. Are you asking where you get the paper luggage tags from? If so, you usually get these affixed to your bags when you check in.

Thanks,
Sarah

I think a lot of people use their own labels/tags nowadays don't they? Not seen any of the 'old school' package tour type labels that you wrote on yourself for ages, do they still use them?

Best off getting your own ,they are available at Check-in, but you'll be faffing around filling them in.

Speak to VA they maybe able to send you some if really needed.
If Travlling PE/UC make sure your bags are marked, with tags at bagdrop/checkin, so they get priority off load.

Yup. If you want the tags to actually put your contact details on, I'd highly recommend getting proper sturdy tags. The plastic FF tags get ripped from many peoples bags so I wouldnt trust the paper ones myself. The free tags that KLM advertised a while ago were fantastic.

If you just want a handful to affix to your luggage in the hope that your bags get priority then check-in should do this for you. I'm not sure that the tags have any bearing as priority is supposed to be based on the barcode tag, but it doesnt hurt to try.

Thanks,
Sarah

I never use tags and just rely on the barcoded label put on at check in. I haven't lost a bag yet.[:?]

I bought some metal tags from Boots a couple of years ago - they are attached via a very strong wire looped through 2 metal plates that are joined to house a piece of card containing your details. Never been torn off! That said, have never lost a bag....yet!!

Only have e-teickets. What about luggage labels?

Collect at Check In.

I always print off my Hotel details and home details on Dymo labels and put onto the UC label, then on the way home or to another Hotel I just stick them over the top of the last one, nice and easy and saves all that time writing them out?

And whilst at Check In, get a few spares for the next trip just in case yours get ripped off in transit.

Thomson nowadays actually give you sticky pre-printed ones - excellent!

As has been said, you have no need of any specific luggage tags. I recommend you get some sturdy ones from a shope selling travel accessories and use them permanently rather than using flimsy ones provided by airlines or tour operators.

Simply put your name and mobile phone number on them (assuming that your mobile number works where you're going...!). On the way out, destination hotel address can help as well but I never bother.

Most helpful advice is to put a separate piece of paper _inside_ your case containing the same contact details.

They will get ripped off as well, why go to the expense when you get Free labels from Virgin?

Whats the point of putting contact details inside your suitcase? The majority of the time your case will be locked?

Good quality sturdy labels stand a much greater chance of staying connected to your bags than cheap paper ones from an airline.

Putting contact details _inside_ your bag is the best way to ensure that you and your bag are reunited when the external luggage labels come off. Airlines say that this is by far the best way of ensuring that your 'lost' bags are returned to you.

The details are not there to be used in any other situation than an airline finding a bag which has no external ID on it. If external ID has been lost, I would rather someone broke the lock on my bag and found details on the inside which allowed them to return it to me.

I'd agree with this. I never actually do it but if your bag did get lost I believe it would certainly help in tracking the owner before it joins a few other thousand in a warehouse awaiting auction by BA [:D]

Agree with all of this... we never rely on the paper labels that airlines/tour operators give us - they just get pulled off far too easily.

We have had our bags delayed/lost a few times and I definitely think that GOOD identification hugely improves your chances of getting them back... [y]

I agree. If I need to check bags in I normally scatter a few business cards inside. Putting your home address on the outside is a great way to tell a burglar your house is empty....

I have my name on my case and these individual letters are extremley difficult to remove. I also have a very distinctive piece of cloth or ribbon secureley fastened to my case as well. I can easily recognise and describe my case, as and when the need arises.
All of the flights I have taken I have never lost any of the Airline labels, it isnt luck the amount of flights I have taken.

Dom F, If you put your full home address on outbound baggage labels then yes you deserve to get burgaled.

Aldi occasionally have an excellent bag strap for sale.
It has a space for a label in the tongue which is normally hidden until you start to undo it.
Not the easiest of strap to get on & off but I regard that as an advantage - more secure.

On the advice to put address inside the case - do BA ever open cases to try to trace their owner?
Or is it not much easier to simply auction them?

Stories of 'lost' cases being found by owners with their addresses still clearly visible on tags suggest that little effort is made to trace and return cases that get out of the system.
