I have miles on my account and miles on my wife's account.

When I want to book a flight on miles for both of us will it take miles from both accounts or just mine as I am doing the booking? And more importantly, if I have enough miles but she falls short in her own account, will it take the balance from mine or say she doesn't have enough?

Thanks

Hi there,

How are you booking the flights? If it is through the VS website it will take the miles from the account of the person logged in.

If you want to combine your miles you can do so, you may be better to call FC to make your booking if you wish to do this. Beware that you need to pay for each leg of a flight in full from one account, so you can book one leg of a reward flight from your miles and the other leg from hers but you cant pay for a leg costing 20k miles with 9000 miles from you and 11000 from her.

Thanks,
Sarah

Thank you.

I would be booking through the VS site. From what you say to do it this way I would need enough miles in MY account to cover the entire booking?

I find it quite odd that since the booking would be for more than one person who each has a FC account that they don't just take miles from each person for their own ticket.

Can accounts be merged? For instance, can her miles be put in my account as it is always me that books the tickets?

Hi there,

No you cant merge accounts, and they are typically not linked in any way (unlike the BA household account) so this is why the site cant take miles from two accounts at one time - plus you need to be logged into your account to make a booking with miles.

The only exception to this is for Gold card holders who can have a supplementary Silver account for a person in their household (and indeed accounts for children) and the Gold card holder can spend from these accounts. Miles earnt by the children go straight into the main Gold account, miles earnt by the Silver card holder still go the silver card holders account and you need to call FC to get the miles moved to your Gold account..

Miles go to the person who earned them, that seems reasonably fair to me.

The way you'd normally do it would be for each person to log into their FC account and book their own flight. If you want to combine miles you are probably better off calling FC as they can process both of your tickets in one go. You can also book flights for other people with your miles online, but as they are your miles you need to be the one to do the booking.

Thanks,
Sarah

Thanks

I guess when the time comes I will call FC and do the booking.

Do booking done through FC show up online like those made through VS site so you can select seat etc.?

For future, could I use my FC number against both tickets so I earn both sets of miles (on the basis that I always book the flights) or is this not allowed?

Once you have your PNR you can access your booking on-line regardless as to how it was booked and select your seat. I have only recently been able to book on-line yet I have always been able to see my booking.

With regard to using your FC number against both tickets that is not possible although you are the person booking the flights. It is the person taking the flight who gets the miles. For example I always booked my son's flights but he got the miles he flew.

No, you cant use your number against both bookings. You can only claim miles for your own flight, the persons name on the FC account must match the name on the ticket.

If you book with FC they can allocate seats for you, or yes, you can request them yourself at VS.com if you have the booking number that the agent should give you once the booking is complete. Note that these are seat requests and not guaranteed. Bookings made directly with VS do not always show up in 'manage my booking' but you can retrieve the booking with your reservation or 'PNR' number.

I hope that helps?

Thanks,
Sarah
