I'd ask some local mini cab firms how much they would charge - it might not be as expensive as you think. Plus they will take you door to door. Depending on how their business is you could negotiate a reduction.

If you have a bit more to spend check out some of the chauffer firms. The one I use from Balham to LHR charges approx £ 35 to to LHR and £ 40 from LHR and I regard this as a bargain as its less stressful and its always nice to be met at LHR by a man with your name on who takes your trolly off you !

Personally lugging luggage on and off trains and tubes is not something I like doing and its not easy if you have more than one bag and depending on the time you travel you won't make yourself popular carrying a case on the train and tubes in the morning rush.

Why do some people get annoyed with people carrying luggage on public transport? Surely thats what public transport is for [?]

hmmmm lets see ... some recent experiences from some of my journeys to work

* couple carry luggage up the stairs at station and then basically stop DEAD and hold up 20 - 30 people behind them rather than move two or three steps forward

* Man plonks three bags in lobby of train doors making it very hard for anyone to get past. Man is in total oblivion as he's nipped down the carriage to get a seat. Three stops later another passenger shouts that if the bags arn't moved he is going to throw them off

* Two delightful ladies stand right in front of the ticket barrier where they then try and find their tickets, again without thinking of the couple of hundred people behind them trying to get through as well

* Young girl thinks that the ideal palce for her bags is the seat on the tube next to her which are meant for people to sit on !

Yes people should not get annoyed but if other people do stupid things ....

So what have you decided to do re getting to LHR?

I'm going to ty to aim to arrive at LHR by 1000, that should allow plenty of time to check in, get though security and enjoy the clubhouse [:D] and get on my 1400 flight.

Since I'm pretty lazy [:p] I'll probably get a taxi, there are 2 good companies based in Guildford I've been told about, GM Cars and A3 Cars, they charge £35/£40 respectively which seems quite resonable.

Oh I wouldn't say you were lazy but you will arrive at LHR in much better shape having been driven rather than useing trains/tubes and having to lug your bag(s) on and off trains, through barriers etc. I use traisma nd tubes to commute to work everyday so being driven is a real holiday treat.

If your checking in UC then it won't take very long at all and the private security channel helps too (same rules as the 'ordinary' one though). Have a quick spin round the duty free shops then up to the CH.

Don't forget to book yourself in for a treatment too - you can do it online on the VA website. That way you'll get to choose what treatment you want when you want rather than have to see whats available if you just ask when you get tothe CH.

Enjoy !

Men's facial or hydrating facial?

Mr DL had a hydrating facial on our last visit - left his skin nice and smooth (the same therapist had done my treatment prior to his so I made sure she sorted his eyebrows out properly too).

Hydrating facial here too[y]

Heard very poor reports on the mens one. Apparently the shave is particularly bad as it's done with a bic disposable razor.

I do not know for sure BUT might be something with having a large blade past security...

The chefs have big, very sharp knives in the kitchen. [:w]

I think it's more to do with hygine than anything. Plus it takes a long time to get skilled with a cut-throat. Lobbing punters ears off before a flight is not a vote-winner [:D]

The Rhinestone Cowboy treatment (which is no longer offered ) was always done with a disposable razor.

When I had one in Dec and Jan, it was done with a Mach3 and actually wasn't too bad.

Many thanks for all your advice [:D] Has anybody used iChauffeur before? They have quoted me £95 from Guildford to LHR in a S-Class. Do you think that is resonable?

It was a mach 3 type thing when I had it, but the actual shave was cr&p, would not have one again.

Glad you've booked your treatment. Am sure you'll enjoy it.

On my visit to the CH last November I just had a shave and it was a dispisable and the therapist made a point of showing me that it was a new razor which I thought was a nice touch.

Next time I'm going for a facial rather than a shave ! Unless anyone has a better sugegstion !

Have not used iChauffeur so can't comment. You could google them and see if there are any reviews.

I use chauffeur.co.uk and found them to be very reliable - even with dealing with a short notice change.

You could email / phone them and ask for a quote. I tend to go with the 'car of their choice' as its the cheapest option and there is only me but I have been in a number of cars but they are always clean etc

WTF, that is just classless, if your going to offer a shave then it has to be with a straight blade...jeeezzz...mmmm..that actually sounds good right now.
