HKG VS238-239 Amalgamation and A/C Change

From 4th May - 24th October they are changing the plane on VS238/239 to a 340-300

From 4th May - 29th June VS238 is cancelled on Monday/Wednesday/Friday along with the return VS239 leaving HKG the following day.

From 15th Sep - 24th October VS239 is cancelled on Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday along with the return VS239 leaving HKG the following day.

Pax will be rebooked onto VS200/201 flights on the same day.

So with cancelling a lot of flights and changing the aircraft there must be quite a drop in demand on the HKG route.

How would this work if you'd got reward seats booked!!
question obvious from my Itinerary below should they start messing with flights later in the year??

Your flights are fine at the moment as you are travelling in November and they are doing double daily for November. However this of course could change depending on demand.

Once the tickets are issued you have the same rights as paid normally pax so you would have to be reprotected onto the other flight or they would contact you for some kind of deal.

If only that was true - unfortunatey it does not work like that. I flew to South Africa paid for in £ and a colleague flew in same class as me paid for with miles. I got re-pretected in same class but as her's was a redemption they did not - it as Y or nothing.

All this = far less G availability to SYD (which had been pretty good of late). Bummer.

I was on VS239 landed on Sunday. At the back of the economy section most of the 2 window seats only had 1 passenger in it. The middle 4 seats had about 2 passengers sharing and the last few rows which consisted of 3 middle seats had 1 passenger each and the dreaded row 61 middle seats had no passenger at all.

Haven't the HKG flights always been like this? I was under the impression that J and W are almost always full and Y varies. (My info comes from before the second daily was added).

I would have thought with the loss of Oasis, there would have been an increase in loads.

Just been chatting to premier team about this, due to my concerns, & they've said loads are still very light, more so on the HKG-SYD legs..

Find this strange. The flight times for VS238/239 are so much better for a trip to HKG, but perhaps that doesn't apply to the Sydney leg, hence the decision to cut these back. Luckily, I'm out on 9th Apr, back on 18th so not affected (touch wood!)...other than take off 45 minutes later outbound, so more time for food /drink at the airport.. Not at the Clubhouse though unfortunately! [n]

The VS200 better for straight through to SYD, as the SYD leg leaves early evening (a night flight) however if you want to spend 5 hrs in HGK [:?] or like me you didn't snag the G seats in time the VS238 gives option of a leg stretch & toddler tiring time etc..

There is a lot of good competition on this route (BA, CX, QF, NZ) and traffic to/from Asia has taken a hit due to the financial crisis.
