I saw this article in Computing this week.

"The company has now moved Virgin Atlantic's IT support, maintenance, development and other operations to suppliers in India, as well as Virgin Holidays' booking systems and trainline call centres."

According to the article the Virgin group has cut its IT budget by 15% though this outsourcing move. Apparently they are also looking at taking this further with its US, Spanish and Portuguese operations. Interestingly SRB said "he liked the idea of moving business to India but that it shouldn't be customer-facing."

The system, designed and implemented by airline network and communications specialist SITA, is expected to be fully deployed by the end of 2004.

Umm, Fozz, did you see the date on that article?:

24 Nov 2003

;):D

I know! I know!

The article I was reading was in Computing today (p14 16th June 2005). I posted it and clicked on the article link and saw for some reason the link they gave at the bottom of the article is way way out of date. Went back to edit post to remove link but the site kept giving me a Service Unavailable message. [:(!]

Then i had to go and beat up a server and now you've posted so I can't cover up my mistake. ;)

So how come you get your copy of computing a day before me then? Not that it matters if the stories are all 3 years old!
