I'm taking my first UC flight in June to BOS and back. You very helpful people informed me that my outbound was liklely to be a 744 and the inbound is likely to be a 343 or 346. Now, my question is should I give upstairs a try on the 744 (if it is indeed the plane I will be on) or is the main deck better in people's opinions? Also, is there a preferred seat I should try any bag on both the aircraft?

BTW - I am travelling alone [:)]

My belief is that on a 747 upstairs is best for a night flight, but on a day flight I prefer to be downstairs where the action (viz. the bar [:w]) is. The pointy bit at the front is highly recommended but I rather like Zone B even if it is busier

I'm ssssooooooo excited - just booked my VS11/12 in Z class 6-9 June!!! The site allocated me 15A on the outbound in a 744 (which I will keep I think) and 1A on the inbound in a 343. Not sure about this one though - rows 7-11 are available and the back section is a sleep zone - what should I go for?

I do not like the upstairs - esp on a night flight. It tends to be far too hot for me to be comfortable. Much prefer the pointy bit.

I don't think he'll be upstairs on the return flight. It will be a tad draughty to say the least [:w]

The front section will be the sleep zone, so 1A will be in it. if you want to sleep, go for it, if not I'd go for 8 or 9 A facing the wall.

On the seatmap in my bookings screen it shows the back 3 rows of the 343 as the sleep zone - presume the front rows are the sleep zone on the 744 and 346? I've gone for 6K [8D]

Ahhh a 343, missed that. I didn't know that the rear section of UC is the snooze zone on this craft ... seems odd to me with only a curtain separating it from PE?

Yes on an A343, rows 14-16 in B zone are usually Snooze Zone seats. I think 1A is fine on this flight as the toilet is on the right hand side of the cabin next to 1K.
