We are booked to go to Dubai in a few weeks - booked with Virgin Holidays.

We are flying BMI from Manchester to LHR (Economy) and VS from LHR to Dubai (PE). As we are going with VH we have also booked the Clubhouse [:D]

I am planning to do online check in for both BMI and VS flights, but when we fist check in at Manchester can anyone tell me if we will be able to through check in, or will we have to reclaim bags at LHR and recheck in there for Dubai flight.

If we can though check, as we are PE will our bags be marked priority for collection.

We would also like to see if we could secure row 18 (bulkhead) seats - when would be the best time to do this? At Manchester checkin, at VS desk at LHR or in the clubhouse.

Not done a multi stop flight before with different airlines so would like an idea what to do?

BTW, as we are flying on a Sat, will the clubhouse likely be busy (can't pre-book treatments) and does anyone have a copy of the new menu - still winter on the website.

Thanks

If it is booked on one PNR then you should be able to check luggae right through.

You will probably find the CH will be quieter on a weekend as their will be less real business pax travelling.

bags should go straight through, but I very much doubt BMI will have PE lables, might be worth trying to get some beforehand and putting them on your bags yourselves.

I also very much doubt bmi will be able to change your seats on the VS flight. Even though it's a through ticket, I doubt bmi will have access to VS systems.

You will proably have to ask to change seats when you get to LHR.

You also probably wont get PE baggage priority regardless of how many PE labels you stick on your cases. The bags will go though LHR as transfer bags and all the transfer bags going onto your VS flight will be loaded onto the A/C at the same time. Sometimes you are lucky and they are loaded last at LHR , therefore, come off first at the other end, other times they come off last.

Again bmi probably wont have access to the VS system, therefore wont be able to tag your bag on their system as being PE priority.

that's quite a good point actually. best option if you were desprate for priority bags would be to tell bmi that you don't want them straight through, then go pick them up at lhr and go checkin again, you'd be able to sort your seats out then too.

On a different point from the OP is too buy your duty free alcahol at the arrivals in DXB as it will be almost the only place to buy any at all! except for the hotels which will charge a sweet penny for it.

cheers

Manchester will be unable to allocate bulkhead seats so you will have to ask for them at LHR (check in, transfer desk or Clubhouse).

Thanks for all the comments.

Will probably through check-in if we can and not worry about priority bags, and will ask about row 18 at LHR - can they do this at the Clubhouse, and who do I ask - is there a desk in there?

Thanks for the tip re Dubai Duty Free Alex - I had already been told about this so a bottle of gin is already on the list to buy.

Just visit the concierge desk in the Clubhouse, they can make changes and re-issue boarding cards.
