Behold, the new season looms! Only a few short, Summer months away...who will come out on top? Who will the big transfers be? Who will be the relegated trio? Which of the promoted teams -- if any -- will achieve success beyond expectations? What will be the crises -- financial, managerial, injury and otherwise? And finally -- what kind of gum does Fergie chew, anyway?

All for your discussion here, in our little corner kick of a zone in Off Topic!

Take it away...

The season break is always an interesting time IMHO. Transfers left, right and centre, managerial changes and so on.

A brief run down of the happening so far:

Setanta Sports may go bankrupt meaning their rights to games will be up for auction. Early front runner for the rights is ESPN apparently
Steve Bruce new manager at Sunderland AFC
Roberto Martinez new manager at Wigan FC
Carlo Ancelotti new manager at Chelsea
Gareth Barry transfer to Manchester City for 12m
Fraser Campbell transfer to Hull for c.6m (still tbc though)
West Ham United FC taken over by American business men
Portsmouth taken over by a businessman from Abu Dhabi

Of course the biggest spending so far has been Real Madrid who seem to have won Euro Millions or something!

Will be an interesting season as always, one would imagine Chelsea will be a threat with Ancelotti and that Man City really should be attempting to challenge the big four.

[:D] It's that nutter Perez who is president of them yet again, he introduced their 'Galacticos' (sp?) era in the early noughties and has promised that he'll do it again so expect a summer full of Ronaldo is going to Madrid again.

Just goes to show he's not learned anything from last time. They won the league twice and the European cup just once, then faded away for the rest of his 4 years in charge. Chucking money at players doesn't always work, you gotta buy the right players and have the right manager in place.

Yep 80 million according to the BBC today plus a 25% yearly wage rise and a six year salary of 9.5m.

We didn't get a summer full of it, just done, it's for the best though. The money on offer is absolutely crackers.

If he doesn't want to play for us then good riddance and I reckon most of us fans feel the same way to be honest, all he's done is moan all season (obviously trying to get his move). I just hope Fergie spends the money well but god knows who we'll end up with now. It's happened before with big players leaving us, the good thing is there's not many players who have gone on to better things.

Looks like Real Madrid are going all out for the flair again, I hope they remember to get a holding player in the team otherwise it'll all be a waste of money, remember the last 'Galacticos' era? It all fell apart for them when Makelele left [:D]

Wow when I originally posted about Ronaldo that was in the BBC Gossip column.

Unbelievable amount of money really, to be honest it was always going to happen. His heart didn't really seem to be into the club like it was before.

Ronaldo will still be there for one more season at the very least. Pictures him stood there are just the press and TV trying to make a story over the summer yet again for the gullibles soak it up. [B)]
I believe that makes us even.[:p]

Much as I am thankful for every goal he delivered to us, Ronaldo was a SCUBA-centric w*****. I hated his petulance and egocentrism. Can't we get a great player with something more like a sense of humour and not so much a sense of entitlement? Good riddance to him -- and now, I hope Fergie buys more than a lorry of chewing gum...

Followers of the Prophet 'Arry can first see him at Lane against Liverpool and then up to Hull.

I know it's early with no transfers confirmed but which of the team to come up can do a Hull or Stoke this year?
I think Birmingham will be OK, Wolves might do but Burnley are going to struggle.

LOL splipperman.

Anyway, United have signed Owen, my intial reaction was not positive however, he's now a United player so he'll get my support. I'm not confident it's a good signing but I hope he proves me wrong, shows we got desperate after Benzema choose Real Madrid over us.
