Hi,

I just got downgraded from silver to red (sob). Happily I only need 3 more points to get it back though!

Anyway, why has virgin changed my membership number at the same time as making me red? What is there logic behind it? Other airlines (such as BA) give you the same number for life - it's like your identity.

Just wondered if anyone knows why they did that? Also will I get yet another new number when I re-qualify for Silver do you think?

Thanks everyone.

Yes the number indicates the tier, so Au is 09 etc...

I think I remember reading on here that account numbers stay linked to you so miles can still be credited. This would explain the need for a second series of red numbers (006). So maybe you will go back to your old silver number when you requalify.

Does anybody know this for definate???

Not sure that's how it works. I have gone between silver and gold a few times and had new numbers each time. Just gone back to gold and got another new 009 number.

Yes your number will change as you move up or down through the tiers. They stay linked in the backend Oracle system, so if you have your old numbers in a partners reward system for a transfer (Say Hilton or AmEx), the transfer will work fine.

The first three digits identify the type of account - FLyignCo, Red, Silver, Gold, Infant etc...

Thanks,
Richard
