I have read many things today, but that the news press think VS may stop flying the HKG-SYD route would be a pitiful shame when they have gone so many months trying to develop it. Having recently travelled the route in U Class through to LHR, I do think that Virgin offer better value with their seat product.

However, to put perspective on what could be happening from a very frequent flyers view point I offer the following:

On a like for like comparison, I did prefer the VS expereince overall from that of CX or QF. But airline loyality goes a lot further than the products offered; the schedules to other destinations, the alliances, the lounges, the breadth of the Frequent Flyer scheme. Knowing I could loss my QF Platinum card if I use VS on all my annual HKG (usually x5 times perannum) and LHR (usually x2 times per annum) flights is a little difficult to contemplate and one I still have not decided on; after all, the QF/BA/CX scheduling offers me huge flying opportunities from Sydney to N America and other Asian cities which I visit regularly. The access to 1st class check-in, 1st class lounges and often 1st class upgrades is worth its weight in gold.

I will watch the developments with interest, but already feel I may be given no choice but to remain more loyal to the 'Flying Kangaroo'

Hi Paul,

Welcome to the site [y].

What "news press link" are you referring to? - I do hope it was not this one - as it appears it was based on speculation at best.

Can you post more details on where the news you read came from?

This looks like it's come from A.net. There's a thread about it there at the moment. The same forum that are also saying SQ have cancelled all their A380 orders..............pure and simple rumours.

But Rumours are the source of many a good thread on here!!

I'ts doubtful VS would drop this route after years of waiting to get it..in fact I'd be surprised if the frequency didnt increase once established.

and with SQ and other partners the VS FF scheme isnt too bad within asia
