Fozz,
This is not such an easy question, me thinks.

I formerly worked for a foodservice company that had airport operations, both landside and flight ops. Now, this was 25 years ago, when "F" meals resembled feasts and "Y" pax were receiving hot entrees for flights of 2-1/2 hours. United had some pretty great food in those days (yes, United!) in "F"; the most lavish service was on its transcon 747s and DC-10s when out came the silver cart and voila!, before one's eyes a beautiful roast beef was carved. Pan Am served canapes in its "F" lounge which was located about where the bar is now on VS's 74's. TWA stationed a flight attendant in the upper deck of its transcon 747s; she served appetizers and poured drinks from 750ml spirits bottles to just the pax seated upstairs.

Fast forwarding to today: I agree with those who've suggested keeping it simple. Chicken, if not overcooked; a little rice and decent vegetables; a cold salad or perhaps some good soup (in "F", UA used to serve cream of mushroom soup with cheese croutons, and a Caesar salad on its version of "good night flight" -- 20 years ago).

And, if the cheese course and tea time are well done, I'm a happy flyer.

Lastly, this may sound a bit much, but I'm the type of guy that no matter what is served me, if it's served with care and a smile, I'm usually okay with it. Given today's food budget restrictions, this last point is a "must".

Foz, thanks for the topic!

Thumbs up for curries, pasta, salads and other more simple options.

Funnily enough, on a QF flight i took last month there were two choices, one was a fancy sounding 'Beef in Red Wine and Tarragon Sauce' and the other was a simple ÔCheese and Tomato RavioliÕ Ð the ravioli had run out before they had got halfway down the cabin. Simple solutions are often the best. I dont think you can go wrong with basic food that is prepared very well and with good presentation

And to answer

How on earth can you sex up a pizza sean?

I think this says is all É

we're talking a Britney Spears Toxic cabin attendant offering

Ok, thinking cap has been on:

Bit bored at work today so I came up with a couple of different choices ;)

I'm not in the airline catering business, so I'm only making a guess at what could be provided. Indeed I'm not in the catering business at all - the nearest I've come to this is microwaving a ready meal from Tesco (Finest, of course!;). You wouldn't nessecarily get all this choice either, but I threw in a few options (including something for the ruminants amongst us :D, marked with a V). Feel free to boo and thank your respective gods I'm not in charge ;)

______

Starters:

Wild Mushroom Salad with Roasted Asparagus on a bed of greens (v)

Roast Duck Breast Salad with Chilli and Lime Dressing

Pumpkin and Apple soup

Main Course:

Fillet Steak with Bearnaise Sauce, served with a selection of seasonal vegetables

Poached Salmon Darne with Lemon Butter Sauce served on a bed of Chive Mash

Chicken Pot Pie, served with a selection of seasonal vegetables

Risotto Primavera (v)

Desert:

Summer Fruit Pudding served with a Cassis Cream

Pecan Pie with real Vanilla Ice-Cream on the side

Cheese Course:

A selection of specially selected cheeses

We have Veg Lasagne on our menu now

For those of you craving Lasagne and Thai Curries, look no further than the current Upper Class Menu.

On most routes ex-UK, we have Lasagne on the menu. There is a Thai Green Curry on the inbound menu.

In my opinion the Lasagne is the best of the three options on the outbound menu. Inbound I like all three (Thai Green Curry, Salmon or Lamb).

WARNING! DO NOT READ THIS THREAD BEFORE EATING OR IF YOU ARE ON A DIET. READING UNDER THESE CONDITIONS CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS WEIGHT GAIN AND DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER MONITOR! [:0]

Oh dear! I've just had to clear all the drool off my monitor before replying [:I]

Well I have never had the Square Pies so I would love to try one especially the lamb pie *drool, drool* but of all the menus that have been presented here tonight I would really have to go with colmc's. The only problem with it would be which main course would I try *drool, drool*

Now where did I put that damp cloth?

I believe that EI dish up a delicious one on long-haul in Y :D

If you want, when I go to NYC, I'll bring it back - that should cure any addiction to the dish you might have :D

And honey lamb [:I]...as it's a virtual menu, you can have each..and they are all calorie free ;)

Singapore Airlines' Book the Cook service must surely be the way for any customer-service focused airline to go. And from their SIN hub you have a choice of 17 (!) main courses (including lamb :)).

We often hear about potential closer cooperation between SQ and VS (latest is much more in the way of code shares) so how about sharing caterers at LHR?

Blackcat, the food on Singapore Airlines looks fantastic. I'm really impressed with the offerings for children in Raffles and First class (under the yummy section on the same link).

jetwet1,

Sounds Great! How many PE seats would they have to dispose of to fit that amount of food in I wonder?? Or is that why they are purchasing A380's?!?!

SQ's Chicken Satay in J is just gorgeous and I still wasn't tired of it despite eating that dish about 50 times the previous week.
Not sure what different they do to it in F, maybe make it with gold or something...
