This will be VERY old news for some people, but for those of us out in the sticks who were out of the loop before, it is new.

I am told that Google maps http://maps.google.com/ have now rolled out street view to every house in the UK.

To view an address put the post code in the search, and then when the map appears, there is an option for street view under 'more' on the left side of the screen.

The details you can see of each house on the street is quite amazing / frightening - depending on your POV.

Hull only went live this week also, i know some people don't agree with it, but I do think it is really excellent and the benefits way outweigh the negatives.

I've just used it to look at my nephew's address in Watford. The CDC will be picking us up from there on Tuesday and I wanted to make sure it wasn't a squat :D

Oh, and I've sent him a message telling him to fix the letter box flap and tidy the bins! :w

I thought I had just posted this but maybe not - sorry if its duplicated.

I have just found my old house. I used to live miles away from anywhere and it was lovely seeing it again, although the trees and hedges are much bigger now!
It was never easy finding places as they rarely had addresses just "1st track on the left after the post box" so a quick look on this and you can visualise where you have to go.

All car reg plates, faces some brand names etc are blanked out. Must have been a nightmare when they drove past our garage :D

The images around our area are from at least six months ago

I wonder how many of those who complain about it invading their privacy then use it to have a good nose about?

Personally I love it as it make travelling around so much easier and you see what a shop/restuarant etc. looks like from outside. Will make house-buying better too as it save travelling only to find out the place is littered with burnt-out cars and looks like a war zone.

Yes a little scary :0

I noticed that in my street the car number plates had been blocked out - however, you can imagine that anytime you use the internet to order stuff that companies could use this to make sure that an area is not going to be a problem

Knickers on display for all to see :D

You think that is an issue, on another forum I moderate on someone thought it would be a good idea to post links to images of women less than fully dressed we shall say.

I figured being a tech forum it would get ignored.

The thread is now up to 40 pages......

Just had a look as my street had never been on Google Street View before. Well the image is about 18 months old (as the house had the old front door) and I must have been away as my car is nowhere to be seen.

I did laugh at the family opposite though all standing on their driveway pointing at the camera!

Coincidentally just been looking at it about five mins ago.

It went around this neck of the woods on the day I had washing out and the day that we had Mr Kwikflow around unblocking the drains...

It also took a picture of my oldest (7yrs old at the time) as he was playing in the garden... Feel very happy they've blurred his face.

They must be updating the pics soon as we saw the google camera car go past us about five days ago.
