I won't be buying one but am very much looking forward to having a play with one next week in the US.

Same as above. As I have an iPhone and MacBook I dont see the need for anything else but I will of course also have a play with one when I'm in Boston in a few weeks.

Also, the 3G versions will be using a smaller mirco-SIM card so all existing 3G SIM cards wont work in an iPad. Even though they will be unlocked, you will still be limited to which data provider you can use with it

I read the micro-sim is just an ordinary sim with the top bit snipped off - so it's just the chip part, which is the same size. Not sure if this is true or the wise words of the Internet...

I think I've made my mind up that I'll probably get one in Miami at the end of the month. I think it will be great as a travel device when I don't want to take my macbook with me.

Having read through the reviews from folks that have them in the US already, I can definitely see the uses of the iPad. I don't have a laptop (apart from a little netbook that is near to useless) but I have an iPhone and an iMac as my main machine. Something that sits between the two could be very useful for longer emails and videos etc - especially when travelling.

I don't think I would bother with the 3G version as I can tether my iPhone via MyWi and use my existing data plan with O2.

Plus with Apple holding a press conference for iPhone OS 4.0 this Thursday, things are bound to get more interesting!

Before you get one, go to an Apple store and have a play with it.

"But can't I plug in my SD card" = Do you see a slot for it ?
"The screen reflects everything" = Sit in a dark room
"when I plug it into the USB it's taking forever to charge" = It can't charge through a USB, only through the 110 (220) outlet.

You get the picture.

If you play with it and it meets your needs, grab one, it is a great looking piece of hardware, it just has to many short comings for me.

Pretty simple, the place I work at now is small, as in tiny, at the Strat we had 1500 employees, here it's about 100, 30 of those in the pit, there are many nights when it is an all male crew working.

Now seeing as discussions about religion, politics and sex are banned, the conversations normally turn to cars, travel and tech stuff.

Soon after joining I worked on a couple of computers for my co-workers (I also showed a guy how to flush the cooling system in his car, but that has nothing to do with this conversation) word got around and people come to me for advice, I had been asked about the I-Pad before from other people, I gave them the pro's and the cons to it, but the big thing was, I told them to wait until HP, Dell and Notion bring theirs out and compare them, then make an informed choice rather than jumping on the bandwagon.

I also pointed them in the direction of some websites that had run reviews on it and told them to read.

Well I guess some people can't read, hence the questioning.

I should of also put, my BIL bought one and seems to be happy with it, I will get to play with it tomorrow when we go down to LA.

The IPAd looks good and I look forward to having a crack on one next month - but like many others and with experience of previous Apple products I will wait for the next generation. Thats when I think it will be a top device

You could very well be correct in that, Apple puts out some great products, but IMHO it is the 2nd generation that really take no prisoners, I am sure Mr Jobs is listening to what is being said, both the good and the bad and will learn from that and improve the I-Pad.

I have been thinking about this tonight. I just really cant decide if I need one. I would like to get one but am worrying I am jumping on the band wagon. However I have never regretted any other apple product i have purchased, I mean I didn't need the iPhone, I had a great phone that called people but now I couldn't live without the apps etc. I am wondering if the iPad will be the same. I think I will wait a while and see what happens, maybe until the middle of the summer to have a look at the iPhone OS4/4G, if that has new features that could be put easily onto the next gen iPad then I think I will wait.

Actually, I am kind of going down the same path.

Not so much at the I-Phone 4G due to AT&T's pricing, but I am looking at the HTC EVO 4G from Sprint.

The thing is, the screens on these touch phones are getting large, though certainly not as large as the I-Pad etc, I am kind of left wondering if the 4G I-Phone will sport a larger screen and if so will it cut into the I-Pad sale (I don't think so but we are here to discuss things) it's certainly shaping up to be a good year for us tech folks.

Also I had a play with my co-workers I-Pad tonight.

The things I noticed.

The thing is fast, apps open A LOT faster than on a I-Phone.

The keyboard is very easy to use compared to the I-Phone, bigger keys make life very easy but also they seem more responsive.

There is a glare issue, but the images are very well presented.

A mental head slap to myself (and Pete for not pointing it out earlier) , I have been looking at this thing the wrong way.

I got it stuck in my head that this was aimed at replacing a laptop, it's not, it's an entertainment thing

As such, yeah it does a good job.
