The satellite does not scan the area every pass which accounts for the "disappearance" - clouds "disappear" as well.

Thanks for the explanation. I though picture with the big red bit would be the one of most interest.

BTW, check the front of today's Daily M**l. It is most certainly screaming panic, doom, we're all going to die - just not from the ash cloud.
