Interesting titbit on a.net from a member of cabin crew;

http://www.airliners.net/discussions/ge ... n/2309868/

"LHR-PVG-MEL to be announced in the coming weeks" and LHR-LAX-SYD to follow.

Also mentioned possible reduction in the current HKG-SYD flights to 4 per week.

Anybody heard anything more about this, or is it unfounded rumour?

a.net = massive pinch of salt!

dont know anything about the poster "cabinboy" so have no idea on his credentials.

However, I would have thought LAX-SYD would be a bit silly, for three reasons:

1) they already operate SYD through HKG
2) I dont think VS have rights for the route (unless an australian arm of VS (DJ?) launched it separately)
3) USA has awful immigration policies even for transitting pax, which will put people off

As far as PVG-MEL, well before SYD was launched through HKG, it was rumoured that PVG was an alternate stop over if HKG was refused, and with PVG now daily it is perhaps more likely.

I tend to agree with the comments of a.net user SevenHeavy:-

Nothing confirmed but look for the following in this order of priority:

HKG (extra frequency, VS206/207)
ORD
BLR or MAA
PEK
YYZ or YVR.

Already confirmed for 2006 are daily LAS, 10 x weekly MAN-MCO, MBJ, and of course DXB. A temporary reduction in frequency to SYD is still possible.

Unless VS can source more aircraft additional routes and frequencies are unlikely. More A346 are coming in 2006 which could well go towards an extra HKG flight. However, this is only possible if they can hang on to the four A343 which were scheduled to leave the fleet by end of 2006.

I think that a double daily to HKG is the highest priority at the moment. We do not currently have sufficient aircraft to offer flights onwards PVG-MEL or LAX-SYD.
