We have been to NYC many times, but always when flying from the UK and also in to JFK.

Next year we will be combining NYC with some other destinations, so will be arriving on an internal flight. Which is the closest, easiest, cheapest airport for getting to Manhattan? I am sure I remember reading that LGA is actually the closest, but do they have an agreement with the yellow cabs for a set rate fee to Manhattan like they do ex JFK?

Any advise much appreciated.
Thanks,
Neil

There was definitely a set fee for the yellow cab from EWR into Manhattan when we flew to NYC last year. From reading other reports I think it was more expensive than it would have been from JFK.

LGA is closest and easiest - there is no set fare into Manhattan as there is at JFK and EWR, but because it's closer the fares are around $30 compared to the standard $45 in a cab from JFK.

Depends on how much luggage you have.

Save the money -Airtrain to Howard Beach then subway A-line to Manhattan. Fast, clean and despite the popular view, safe.

Another vote for the Airtain + subway here too. It's a lot cheaper and quicker. About $12.50 each way and takes less than an hour to get to the Times Square area.

Vote here for Airtrain + LIRR (Long Island RailRoad) into Penn Station, slightly more $ than the Subway option but quicker and still much less pricey than a cab.

Obviously that's from JFK only. I don't think LGA has a Subway stop.

The two Airtrain options from JFK are both great. Have done them many times and will continue to do so.

Airtrain to Howards Beach and A-line Subway into Manhattan - $7.25
Airtrain to Jamaica and then LIRR to Penn Station - $13 (slightly quicker)

Cabs from LGA should be 30 bucks at most, could be as low as 20. This includes tolls. It's a LOT closer than the other airports, and like DCA it has restrictions on number of flights etc.

You can take a couple of buses to subway stations in Brooklin or Queens, I think, but given taxi prices from there it isn't worth it IMO.

Neil, I need you to stop and think for a minute, you are putting yourself through all the stress of trying to figure this out, then if you do do it, you will be carrying a couple of suitcases are train terminals, carrying them up stairs, for what, to save $20, take a cab from any of the airports, in the long run you should be look for a cheaper flight, it will all balance out no matter which airport you fly into.

I agree Dave, flights are with £10, so that isn't an issue. LGA and a cab from there is the number option now. Whilst we have done the BART in SFO to and from the airport, with a taxi being so cheap from LGA it just doesnt offer enough of a saving for the hassle involved, especially as we will have 3 cases/bags and two pieces of hand luggage.
