""Flightplan" Rage"

According to MSNBC, several flight attendant organizations are calling for a boycott of the new Jodie Foster film, "Flightplan."

They are in a righteous tirade over the fact that the film dares to portray poor service (shock! horror!) and outright nefarious behavior from characters who are flight attendants.

What do you think of the portrayal (if you've seen the film) and what do you make of the flight attendant organizations' reaction to the film?

I saw the trailer for this film before I saw red eye last weekend and the firts thign I thaught was that wopah, that IFE looks like Vport.
Secondly, I feel that if it were real, the insane woman would ahve a ticket stub for the child and a passport.
Also, the staff didnt seem very rude in the film, believe me, Ive flown air2000 (pre FCA days), the staff seemed like normal staff (missing the VS touch obviously). The woman was also crazy, and started to danger passenger lives, so I guess in reality she would be restrained and the plane would make a landing at the nearest airfield.
Dont quote me wrong, but its just a film. Films never have to make sense (red eye for example saw the plane type change 3 times ).
I think the airline crews are beign a bit touchy, and seeing as its a mad eup airline, I think they need to calm down.

when I was a youngster, I saw a movie called "come fly with me" and it coloured my views on air hostesses from that point on [:o)][:o)](well, that and going out with one for ten years, but that's another storey :D)

Saw 'Flightplan' on release last Friday in the Arclight Cinerama-Dome on Sunset Blvd (film nurds will know what that is all about).

In short, there were a lot of plot holes, particularly in the 3rd Act, but the portrayal of the flight attendants seemed pretty accurate - they were dealing with what seemed to be a deranged/potentially dangerous passenger and treated her accordingly. In fact quite leniently I thought... took forever to put her in 'irons'.

Me thinks the so called Flight Attendant Organizations that are up in arms would most likely be the Publicity Dept at Buena Vista/Touchstone Pictures. There is a long established history of this sort of 'outrage', it's a really cheap to buy and easy to generate publicity for a movie, and all publicity is good publicity in a films opening weekend... or am I being too cynical.

I did wonder what Airbus might make of the fictional A474 Double Decker plane... looked awfully like one of the many mock ups for the A380

All seems like a storm in a tea cup to me, and one has to be suspicious that the spinsters have hyped it up a bit.

BTW Alan - are you able to post any links to trailers of 'come fly with me' so that we can all get an idea of the artistic qualities of the film;)

Well their main gripe seems to be the bad light it paints them in and how they are the first line of defence in the air! Maybe valid points, but if we apply their logic to things we should all boycot the following types of films:

Any film where the police are not very good!
Any film where the fire service are less than perfect!
Any film or tv show where the A&E department of a hospital is shown making a mistake!
Any film with anyone corrupt in the armed services!
Any film with anyone currupt in the government!

I am sure you get my point by now, we wouldnt have that much tv or films left to watch!

They just don't like it because they have not been picked on for a subject of a fictional film!

Well thats my view anyway!!

I have a problem watching movies or TV where I know stuff about whats going on,T'v show's like LAs Vegas just drive me nuts,so the chance's of me ever seeing this movie are remote..from what I saw of the trailer it reminded me of her last movie Panic Room...kind off..don't know,for me Jodie Foster jumped the shark after The Silence of the Lambs,which is in my top 5 movies of all time..

Hi Jetwet - for those who don't want to know about putting Jodie Foster in irons don't read any further - the answer to your question is affirmative, she is put in 'irons'.

Incidentally the film is nowhere as well crafted (good) as David Fincher's 'Panic Room' which Foster starred in.

P.S. even if you do read the answer it really wont affect your enjoyment of the film.

I dont think Jumped the shark is quite applicable here, she didn't have an out & out silly moment after lambs (I dont think!)

In one article I read that memories of 9/11 are still so strong among FAs, and the industry is in such turmoil right now, that a response to "Flight Plan" was guaranteed.

When these associations/unions come out so strongly against a movie, it almost always means that more rather than less people will go to see it -- if only to see what the fuss was all about.

Not Jodie Foster's best work, by a long shot.

I don't know about other airlines, but BA used to carry handcuffs. Unfortunately, they were used for ahh...alternative purposes and management were forced to have a sort of handcuff amnesty with no questions asked!;)
