Folks

You know there's so much fun to flying... and now since the joys of online seat selection have come to fruition, it's possible to spend hours of endless fun on the days before the flight playing musical chairs choosing your favourite seat.

Every day I will log in and take a more prized seat if one becomes available. For example tomorrow on the VS9 (originally scheduled as a 346) I started off in 6K, then a few days later 4K became available... then 3K... but until this morning I was still waiting for the prized 2K to come up when the plane changed from an A346 to a 744. I have been put in 3K on the upper deck and I think I will stick with it - I think it is ten years since I last flew on the upper deck on VS, so I'll see what it's like.

Anyway on the BA flight on the way back I started in 3K, then 2K and this morning life was sweet and my favourite 2A came up.

Is it just me or do I have way too much time on my hands?

Cheers, Howard

You mean you just don't turn up at good old traditional check-in and ask for your favourite seat?

Maybe I'm old fashioned.... :)

Thanks,
Richard

LOL! Lucky your favourite seat isn't the same as mine. Just checked in online and found 1A/1K became available so I went for 1A - it doesn't get more pointy than that (OK, maybe 6A/6K are more pointy but they don't sound it to the man on the street). This seems to be a recurrent theme with the bulkheads suddenly becoming available everywhere at check in.

You mean you are lucky that we don't have the same favourite seats? :)

And after you asking me at the bar on the flight to CPT why I wanted to sit in row 1! The cheek....

Thanks,
Richard

Howard, your post made me smile. I'm a glad I am not the only one with far too much time on their hands[:I] I think I am settled now for 9K on the way out and 9A back (744), but then again...........

Remember though - seat selections are not guaranteed until check-in! Sorry to put a downer on your fun!

And even then they are not guaranteed, changes can (and do) happen!

Who needs to be a V50, just be LROM instead! He wishes!!!

But a V50 would get their favourite seat - I know how particular some of the V50's are with their seats. ;)

For me my favourite seat is anywhere in the J cabin :) - you'll never see me throwing a tantrum at check-in saying but I want 9A or 1A. I may ask nicely for one of the sets of two seats at the back of the plane if I am flying in Y though.... of course I will always try and presassign my seat in advance though.

I have seen an entire family moved back from Y seat reservations in C zone to accomodate a split family group of Y and J. And of course we know that at times you get on the plane and someone else is sat in your 'seat' as somehow a double assignment has occured - this is when it can get messy if passenger is part of a group booking.

Thanks,
Richard

I get my seat every flight, unless another V50 has it already - it has happened! Similar story on a flight from HKG last year which was waitlisted for 'J' I thought 'ok' not an issue - as a V50 I go straight to the top of waitlist, but no, 6 other V50's were waitlisted before me!

A few weeks back I was flying from Gibraltar to LHR on BA in Club. This was a 2/3 config AC(aisle)DEF. I had the four of us in 2A/2C and 3A/3C. At online check in I saw that they'd moved the 2A/2C allocation to 3D/3E (of course, I wasn't informed of the change). I changed the 3D/3E to 3D/3F to block the middle seat out and keep some room for ourselves (that trick works very well - who would willingly choose a middle seat?). Turns out Robert Kilroy-Silk and his daughter/other had been allocated our 2A/2C. Thought about saying something but restrained myself... or at least the GF restrained me.

What really pee'd me off was that when Robert Kilroy-Silk gets your seat allocation, it just shows you how far down the pecking order you are [8D]

And of course we know that at times you get on the plane and someone else is sat in your 'seat' as somehow a double assignment has occured - this is when it can get messy if passenger is part of a group booking.

I've never figured out how this happens. It's rare, and has happened to me once, but I never ever figured out how it can happen unless two check-in agents hit the button at the same time.

Cheers, Howard
