Having been unable to book VS flights from Manchester to Orlando at a sensible price for the Easter period, we were forced to travel with American routing through Chicago. The outward flight was upgraded to a 767 as the airline had apparently overbooked by 30 passengers. The aircraft had the obvious benefit of two aisles. The entertainment was from screens situated near the cabin roof and placed about one every 5 or 6 rows. The return was on the scheduled 757.Tight on leg space and seat width , packed to the gills, same T.V. screen arrangement but the toilet appeared to be quite new !! I can understand the choice of this size of plane on these routes from an economic point of view for the carrier but as a passenger, we won't be using this route again. The gate agent offered to give us exit row seats without warning us that the said seats were standard pitch ( Row 10 BC and D E ) Row 10 A&F have no seat in front of them so it is possible to stretch out there - a luxury we didn't experience. We normally fly VS direct from MAN but will fly to Europe for an onward flight to the U.S.A.in future. Do American's chums at B.A. use the ancient 757 across the pond or would I be correct in thinking that they have retired these old aircraft. A very poor product - the only saving grace at all was the pleasant cabin crew, one or two of whom must have been in nappies ( diapers )when these planes were built. Will look elsewhere in future after using American many times in the past.
