I agree Neil that people should wear what they want and be happy, that's what I do.
I just don't think that someone saying that something "looks so naff" (their opinion), warranted the insult that started off more personal. "It appears you have far too much time" (my emphasis on the "you").

But then again I'm not here to Moderate this forum, I will leave that to you and the rest of the team.

Rugby shirts are just about tolerable but I would need pictures to be certain about their acceptability. As for tracksuit bottoms, well there are tracksuit bottoms and there are tracksuit bottoms.

It appears you have far too much time if you are studying and worrying about what other people wear.

I never have nor will understand people's obsession with worrying about what other people wear. If they are happy and not breaking any rules/laws then what on earth does it matter to you? I'll wear what and want and if others don't like it then tough, it is quite clearly them who have so little in their lives that they choose to judge others based purely on their attire.

Well I think you have managed to shoot yourself in the foot there. Carry on, I'll get some popcorn. :D

Not at all - you gave an opinion I disagreed with, I gave my opinion on that, that is usually how it goes - I'm certainly not going to get in to a slanging match over it.

Well I am putting my popcorn down to weigh in..

Personally don't care as long as they are wearing clothing, unlike a gentleman on one of my flights that thought it a wise idea to attempt to change into his sleeping tracksuit (upper class sleep suit) in the middle of the cabin. Personally I am curious how far he would have undressed had the FSM not stopped him and mentioned that the washroom was vacant.. hint hint.. ha.

Why fight over this? What ever happened to freedom of opinion? People can wear what they feel comfortable in and I will do so whether turning left, right or hanging onto the wing (although I will be tutting disaprovingly if anyone gets on my next flight dressed as a crocodile or other swamp creature..)

As someone nearing the over 25 bracket :# I fully intend to continue to wear A&F polos and hoodies as they are more than comfy on a long haul flight (unlike my suit, which fits very nicely in the cupboard on board).. Sorry if I offend and spoil your upper class experience if we ever share a flight Silver Fox, if it helps just think I am trying to hold onto my youth with all those hopes and dreams still ahead of me.. ahh if only I cared :P

Happy flying v-flyers, whichever teletubby you may be dressed as y)

I'll be 43 when I next fly and I most certainly will be wearing Adidas bottoms and a Hollister t-shirt in PE. No way I'm doin 11 hours on a plane in uncomfortable jeans etc. If people pay for a ticket, they can wear what they like. Imo It's the ones who have the problem that need to have an attitude check :d

I have to agree, I couldn't really care less what other people wear. I, personally, like to dress smartish when flying, but do bear in mind the comfort for a long flight as well. I think if your flying first, business, PE or Economy - wear what you want, but I would stop at a Birmingham City shirt!! :D

I almost exclusively where tracksuit trousers/joggers on a longhaul flight - for comfort.

I obviously don't wear the ones I reserve for gardening, nor the ones with a hole in the knee plus emulsion splaated on them for my last bout of decorating..

I see no reason why what others wear should directly effect me either (apart from young females wearing extraordinarily short skirts which puts up my blood pressure).

Isn't this just common sense stuff?

Ok, so you might consider dress when eating at The Savoy a little more carefully than if you were off to McDonalds, but then you're all going to eat.
On a plane, people are going on business, going on holiday, going home, going to weddings/funerals etc - all sort of reasons.

As long as the clothes (and yes, you should probably wear some) have been washed in the last week or so, then I couldn't give a damn.

Live and let live, that's my policy...

Totally agree, the reason I pay money for upper class is primarily for the comfort factor, and I certainly wouldn't want to compromise my comfort by dressing smarter to please other passengers.

My clothes will always be clean decent and comfortable

Well I'm well over 25 and on my next flight I shall wear my Team GB polo top and trackie bottoms with great pride, no matter what cabin class I travel in.

What amuses/baffles me generally in life is that people are so willing to advertise their tribal allegiances, whether to sports teams or fashion names. I just don't really see the attraction of this at all. I could say more, but I won't. ;)

I did and I concluded that it was no longer appropriate to look in a mirror. :(

I am 64, and will be when I set off to OZ for Road Trip Part 2 in a month.

I shall park the tweeds and my zimmer frame at Heathrow.

Travelling in J, I will, of course, as usual be wearing a dinner jacket for my flight on the 380. One just does, you know.

For the 777 flight from Dubai to Brisbane, I shall change...one also just does, you know.

I shall then be wearing my age inappropriate A&F shirt...actually it says Applecrumbe and Fish or alternatively the gold and black of the recently relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers, my tribe.

Either will be accompanied by bright pink cargo pants and a pair of Doc Martins in electric blue.

Anyone sitting next to me or near me will find me engaging company, it is still me never mind the fashion.

I will probably get upgraded to First to avoid offending anyone! Here is hoping. ): ): ): ): ):

I actually think that would be great 8D (well just go for the A&F, not the wolves top ;) )

BA club - smart casual to avoid the death stares of snobby idiots, BA first - smart casual to avoid death stares of snobby idiots. VS Upper - mandatory flip flops, shorts and tshirt. I've had much better service dressed that way being very down to earth with the crew than i have when i've been smart/quiet.

OK folks, I claim my right as the doyenne, the seniormost citizen of this board (sorry HWV, you're my younger sibling in this) to state my case.

Fact #1. I wear what I want. I like my clothes and I like my comfort. Depending on the time of year and the season I am flying into (autumn/spring, summer/winter) I wear, or bring as carry-on clothes appropriate to my destination be it home or away. Jeans or track suits bottoms are fine as far as I'm concerned and are adaptable.

Fact #2. Virgin flies long haul. When you get off the flight you are not going straight to a wedding, a dinner dance or a soirée at Buckingham Palace. If you are then it's bad planning on your part. Therefore you dress for comfort not style. You're on a plane, not a catwalk!

Fact #3. You may be going straight to a meeting if you are on a red-eye or may have come to the airport straight from a meeting, in which case formal attire is acceptable and indeed tolerated. Just feel sorry for those poor sods who are possibly travelling week in and week out, who rarely see their own bed, who live out of a suitcase, who know the room service menu in the hotel they are staying more than their own Chinese takeaway and in fact to experience the latter is akin to a gourmet banquet and when they get home have to ask their children their names!!

Fact #4. If I can tolerate a football jersey as I had to do when my nephew wore one on a flight in UC to JNB, so can you. Build a bridge and get over it. I did!

Fact #5. What is not acceptable is what I viewed (or rather what I would rather not have viewed) is on a flight to JNB in Y when a middle-aged guy in the departure lounge sat with one leg resting at right angles on the other leg wearing the skimpiest cut-off shorts I have ever seen to the extent that his liathroídí* were exposed! :0 :0 :0

Did you ever consider 'people' do it simply as a wind up, and it's best not to bite the bait :D

That so reminds me of a 'Friends' episode when the guy was told "put the mouse back in the house".
Again, the person in honey lamb's quote was probably doing that for attention, but still - yuk :$
