Excuse my near total ignorance. Is the problem that the site is becoming a victim of its own fantastic sucess? By that I mean is it getting too big for the monitary resources it is generating? If this is correct then its a hell of a nice problem to have, but nevertheless a problem. Simply interested .

I'll be migrating a few more parts of the site over the the SQL server, so you may experience a few errors during the transition. Apologies for any disruption this may cause...

I'm aware that there is an error in subscribed topics notifications (and as I didn't reply to the iFly thread, I know the notifications are bogus). This seemed to happen when the database moved over to SQL.

What I can't figure out, is why. At the moment, I can't recommend subscribing to topics.

Wow.

It may have just been me, but the site's been showing as "Service Unavailable" for the last 1.5 hours [:0]

I have a feeling that I'm not alone - there is only one other person on the site right now...

Yup, I had to call the webhost to ask them to restart the server. I think it could be a .NET config issue rather than the site being "too busy", as it has its own application pool.

I shall be looking into it further as a matter of priority. This at least gives me some clues as to were to look (previously I had taken the ISPs word for it that V-Flyer was just a busy site!).

Pix,
Schedule tool showing:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'

Line 1: Incorrect syntax near 'December'.

/schedules.asp, line 51

Quite a long period yesterday AM here on the West Coast when I could not access the site.

Best,
Chuck-

Hi Chuck,

Thanks for pointing that one out - I have been moving some more of the remaining Access databases over to SQL this morning and missed that one.

The outage yesterday appeared to be caused by an error on the server, which sorted itself out once the ISP managed to restart it.

I'm continuing to work on some of the existing code on the site in order to improve performance and reduce loads, and therefore reduce the Service Unavailable messages (although sometimes those messages are unrelated to the number of people using the site - just a server crash)

Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113'

Script timed out

/forum/privatesend_info.asp

The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools.

I got the above message while trying to send a PM.

Hope it helps,

Max

I've temporarily disabled the automatic highlighting of Glossary items in the forum since I suspect it might be the cause of some of the timeout errors. Until I can get to the bottom of it, the handy underlines and tool tips won't appear on any new posts or any old posts that you edit.

Just now had a REALLY weird thing happening!
Would not keep me logged in, kept taking me out, then it redirected the web page to "seedmagazine" web site!!

Now logged in again OK.

The site has been a lot better in terms of error and times out, last few days been getting a few "Server busy" messages.
