You won't often see the LGW-LAS route in a fare sale, bearing in mind the monopoly VS enjoy.

Wow, they don't hang around long, do they? In the time it took me to get a provisional leave request approved, the Z bucket is empty on the SFO flights I wanted!
What dates, Mike?

Out on 6th Jan, back on 8th Jan, just a quick weekend away mileage run.

Actually checked on Expertflyer and found the Z bucket now empty for both days!

Going to visit friends in BOS instead. Fewer miles, but still the important 10 TPs to kick off a new qualifying year!

Cheers,
Mike

Would prefer to fly out of Heathrow to SFO or LAX rather than from Gatwick direct to LAS anyway.

I know this is only going to be useful for a select few, but since I have it, I figured I'd post it.

Here's the (as of right now) availability for the LHR-SFO route for the sale fares:

Date....O/B..I/B..
15/12...Z=7..Z=0
16/12...Z=7..Z=3
17/12...Z=7..Z=3
18/12...Z=7..Z=7
19/12...Z=7..Z=7
20/12...Z=7..Z=7
21/12...Z=7..Z=7
22/12...Z=7..Z=0
23/12...Z=7..Z=0
24/12...Z=7..Z=7
25/12...Z=*..Z=*
26/12...Z=*..Z=7
27/12...Z=7..Z=7
28/12...Z=7..Z=7
29/12...Z=7..Z=7
30/12...Z=7..Z=7
31/12...Z=7..Z=7
01/01...Z=0..Z=7
02/01...Z=1..Z=6
03/01...Z=7..Z=7
04/01...Z=7..Z=7
05/01...Z=7..Z=7
06/01...Z=0..Z=4
07/01...Z=4..Z=5
08/01...Z=3..Z=0
09/01...Z=7..Z=7
10/01...Z=7..Z=7
11/01...Z=7..Z=7
12/01...Z=7..Z=1
13/01...Z=7..Z=1
14/01...Z=2..Z=5
15/01...Z=4..Z=7
16/01........Z=7
17/01........Z=7
18/01........Z=7
then you're on your own...

* = Availability search only brings up connecting flights (via EWR/JFK) - nothing is displayed for VS19/20. There ARE flights operating, so not sure what's going on.

Unfortunately for Mike, it seems the 6th O/B and 8th I/B are the only real problem dates for a return trip! [:?]

Cheers Paul...

First in Revivals the other day, you point out that for the price of my PE ticket LGW-LAS-LGW 25/12 to 01/06 I could have booked a Virgin Holidays trip in PE including 7 nights at theHotel.

Now you show me that for 250 quid more than said ticket (and flying out 1 day earlier - not a problem) I could have gone UC to SFO instead. In fact, I could probably go on 25/12, it's just not showing as you say.

How refundable is the fare basis SLXAP7 ? [8D]

Edit: Hold on - weren't you chastising me earlier today for posting at such a student-like hour? No doubt you'll have some lame excuse like you're in a different timezone...[:p]:D

How often do Virgin tend to run promotions like these? Seen a few Y and PE recently, but this is the first UC I've seen (although haven't looked overly hard at airfares in the past)
Do like the sound of the £2100 Sydney flight too, but as mentioned with the LAS flights, wrong time of year for my holiday periods :(

BUT, a Z is classed as a higher fare than an S, so it'd invoke the "upgrading to any higher cabin" rule + £30. [y]
Tempting...? [:w]

But I can't do that can I? My current ticket is to LAS, so i'd need to cancel that ticket rather than just upgrade, and cancellations aren't allowed right? Or do VS have some kind of "LAS is near enough to SFO so we'll call it quits.." policy?

Ah. Good point. [:?]

Oooh. But wouldn't that be a change? (although re-routes are not permitted...)

Hmm. I think I'd call them and see what they can do. Don't ask, don't get...?

Don't know if it helps, but I had to change my route on a q fare, which I think is a similar fare rule. I orginally had LHR-JNB-DUR with the last bit being with Nationwide, then for the return CPT-LHR. I changed it to LHR-CPT and left the return the same. The charge was just the £50 change fee less the reduction in ticket price (which was £42 - so I was a happy bunny)

Cheers preiffer and sailor99 for the guidance...i'm not sure much will come of it, because there are other "family-derived" restrictions affecting changes to that ticket which may yet be insurmountable! :)

Hi Hamish,

I'll be in LA over Christmas too. I think this offer means a lot of V-Flyers are likely to be away for Christmas/New Year!
