... by you, the British Public, it appears that Mr. Moyles and the rest of the Chris Moyles Show gang headed out to NYC in Upper Class on Friday.

Apparently, they didn't make use of the bar as they felt a bit silly sitting there in their snooze suits... [:w]


Anyway - they also made use of the services provided by "The Gabby Cabby" for a tour.

He broadcasts NYC tips to "300 million listeners" too; has anyone here "used him" before?

God, I hate Chris Moyles. Good to see that he got either 12K or 20K. Rubbish seats! [}:)]

Looks like it was G-VXLG, judging from the skymap as well.

I accidentally flipped over to Radio 1 this morning as I switched between Capital and KISS in search of music, and noticed they were in NY. How wisely they spend our licence fee! [n][V]

The licence fee is one of many taxes I am opposed to. The enforcement behind the licence is oppressive and the inspectors generally use fear and intimidation to make people pay (e.g. "Official Interviews" at the doorstep to make people scared). There - said my bit!

seems to be a v-flyer theme here - I'm not a fan of Radio1/Chris Moyles either!

(in fact it is not even a preset in my car!)

I have to agree with Onionz about the BBC/Licence thing. Here is a little tale about one of their investigators...

My Ol' Mum is 72 and lives in a tiny village in Devon. (Her nearest shop is 6 miles away and there is ONE bus a week into town - you get the idea!)

She doesn't like TV and hasn't owned one for over 10 years but every few months she gets a letter threatening her that if she doesnt get a licence she will be liable for a big fine and a criminal record!

She even gets visits a couple of times a year, but last time she threw a bucket of water over the guy and nobody's been back since!

I was thinking of trying this with the double glazing people who seem to be stalking me...[}:)]

it is a tax you have to pay every year,thi money is uded to fund the BBC,but there are no commerical,well,'cept for the tuff promoting whats coming.

Just my 2 cents..on our trip over last Sept we were driving around the south coast listening to the radio,we ended up on Radio 2 because the person was funny,the music was good,radio 1 sucked,ok if you like every song sounding the same,but other than that [n],guess im turning into my parents [:0][:#]

See Licence Fee. You only have to look at the difference in programming between the UK's commercial stations and the BBC to see what the impact of the licence fee is.

Dave: Radio is great without commercials. I have never listened to the radio in the UK but do enjoy XM radio in the US. I am listening to Howard Stern and people are calling in to stay they want quality content (XM, iTunes, etc.) and are willing to pay for it. I buy songs and pay for XM.

BlackCat: Thanks for the link. I like the BBC ( The Office is great and last Saturday BBC America had a marathon of Absolutetly Fabulous; great). When I worked the ramp people who are non naturally born Americas used the BBC WorldService to learn what is happening in there home country.

My only 'beef' is that blind persons only get one-half off but more than half of the break down is on tele. I guess they could listen to the audio.

Funnily enough the World Service is not paid for through the license - it is paid for through the Foreign and Commonwealth office as a means to provide a British perpective around the World.

Funnily enough I am actually quite proud of the BBC, the way they are funded and the quality of the programming (except of course for Radio 1 which is a pile of poo [:o)]).

BBC America is wholly funded by commercials - even the website carries commercials.

From BBC America FAQ
In the UK, the BBC is funded by British TV licensing fees. However, by law, the BBC is not allowed to use this money to fund channels outside the UK, and so BBC AMERICA is reliant on advertising sales. Without advertisements, we would not exist.

In fact BBC America actually contributes to the BBC is the UK as it pays commercial rates for the programming.
