Why is it that UK airport baggage handlers treat peoples' belongings with such disrespect?
After just visiting Japan where upon arrival in the baggage hall a staff member stood at the head of the belt and ensured every item on the belt was handled with care and securely on the belt, well spaced apart, straight etc. I've NEVER seen such care taken with my or other peoples bags.
On arriving back at LHR today on VS901 all bags were literally just thrown onto the conveyer belt with no due care and attention, including bags (my bags) marked as fragile! Bags were thrown on top of others, thrown carelessly on the belt so that they were falling off the belt at people's feet. Numerous bags fell off the belt, and me and another PAX were trying to ensure that some of them didn't but it was hopeless, too many. Where I've never seen such care and respect for other peoples belongings in Japan, I've often seen such disrespect here in the UK and in other places, but today was particularly bad.
Nothing I can do about it. There were officials stood in the baggage hall looking around but not paying attention, and others who tried to keep bags on the belt but with not much effort and in the end they left it. I felt like complaining but looking at the apathetic staff didn't feel it would have made any difference.
Moan over!
