Hi Guys and Girls,

Need to pick your brains and hope that you can come up with some good suggestions as you have helped in the past.

I am trying to organise our 2006 vacation and we would like to stay in the New England area in the early Autumn months, as there will be a group of around 6 of us we would like to try and find a house to rent for a couple of weeks as a base to explore the area.

We would preferably like somewhere on or near the coast in a quietish area but not to far from a major mall and restaurants, and not miles and miles form the airport.

I prefer to book independently, but at the moment I am struggling to find somewhere, it seems like this type of home rental is only available in Florida.

Any suggestion would be gratefully received and ideas of areas to visit would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The best of luck. In the past I have used one of the several magazines that can be found in WH Smiths offering Villa Rental. I agree that as far as the US is concerned, the VAST majority of these are aimed at the Florida market.

However, I have certainly seen New England properties in them. It may be worth standign and having a browse next time you are in, to see which is the best magazine to get.

In my experience, it is cheaper to rent from Brit owners, and pay them in advance in sterling before travel.

Have a look at http://www.individualtravellers.com - they have lots of New England properties to rent. Some of the places look really attractive and you can pick the State or area in which you want to rent.

Good luck:)

Hello Jaydun.

I would be glad to offer possibilities but feel you might want to narrow down "coastal" a bit. New England coast extends hundreds of miles from Maine to Connecticut. Cape Cod is popular in autumn as is southern Maine, Rhode Island and north/south shore Massachusetts.

US-based site rentals will be less costly as pound/dollar exchange stays plus towards the pound.
Right now we have far more snow than Christmas really needs and temps well below O Centigrade are the norm (it has been -18 the past two nights).

Ah though, a lovely autumn just past..warm Indian summer days and soft nights after a broiling summer, so many hopes that your 2006 holiday will be lovely as well, Cape Cod bay waters stay warm well through September for sailing and bathing.

cheers,

rr
