Cool. This goes to my Dashboard right away.

I guess the data does not include any information what aircraft is currently flying on that route?

Can you do a PC Version? I do have a MAC, but i'm only on 10.2 and can't be bothered to do the upgrade just now. Looks cools though

Paul,

Widgets are a Mac OS X 10.4 thing only, so I doubt they'll be a PC version for the same reason it doesn't work on Mac OS X 10.2

Ooh - I like that [y][y]

Better than the standard flight tracker widget, that's for sure!

There is just one thing...

... I can't seem to find anywhere that it tells me what exact plane I will be on for the VS19, May 17th 2007.

SURELY this information is available too?! [:I];)[:p]

I like it a lot, I love how you used the designs from that VS thing a while ago in it. Alas I cannot use it though.

If we had some money, we could tell you if it was the "African Queen" or "Birthday Girl" for example.

Is that so that the data provider provides that kind of information only with a fee?

Unless it has changed very recently, VS are always VERY guarded about the actual plane that will fly a particular route.

The reasons for this are mainly to do with security, post 9/11, but also - from what we used to be told, VS don't make these decisions until a few days before the flight - and even then they are always subject to change.

There was a heavy dose of irony in Paul's comment above. [8D][:I]

The pay version of many flight trackers displays the registration number for the aircraft flown...

http://www.fboweb.com/fb40/login/ft.aspx (fleet watch)

...So if we had the money, we'd link the registration number with the aircraft name.

The information that is always being asked for here is the exact aircraft that will be used IN ADVANCE of the flight date. (Hence Paul's comment about 2007).

Correct me if I have got it wrong, but the flight trackers you refer to will only give the information of the exact aircraft on or after the date of the flight.

The information about past which aircraft was used on past flights is already available on V-Flyer here.

I have noticed that ExpertFlyer shows the current flying registration, something like that could be also used with the widget but as Kleiner told us that information is usually only available with a fee.

I was basically asking if widget is currently using a source, which has the information but it is available only a fee (the background idea being that the widget could be enhanced in such a way that if the user has purchased the package from the provider then it would automatically fetch also the registration number).

I just tracked VS020 and it tells me that the flight has arrived 10hrs 45mins early. It basically just gets confused apparently while parsing the information from the service provider.

From VS website:
Flight number VS 020
Departure date 17 Dec 2005
Route San Francisco (SFO) to London (LHR)
Scheduled departure time 17 Dec 16:45
Actual departure time 17 Dec 17:24
Scheduled arrival time 18 Dec 10:55
Actual arrival time 18 Dec 12:10

I don't think it arrived 10 hrs early :)

Edit: of course the widget was tracking the next flight that is not yet flying. Maybe the widget could indicate somehow which date is currently being shown. And for future flights it would not show arrived status.
