Hi there,

What are my chances of getting my wife and I upgraded from our K class PE seats into something more... horizontal?

We're booked on VS200 on 14/02 and then after a stopover on the 20th.

The next fare up which, I think, would have no problem with an u/g was £700 more so we decided on the K class.

I also noticed a strange thing the cheapest fare to HKG on that day was £1100 whereas the trip to SYD came in at £880. If you wanted to go to HKG it'd be cheaper to buy a SYD ticket and just stay on.

Cheers,

Lou

We've just done that on an EWR flight. We paid for the K->S and then used miles.

I flew back from Mumbai last week in PE with my mum. We were booked in PE with K Class tickets and I tried to use my airmiles (I had enough) to upgrade my mum at the airport but they would not do it. The worst part is that there was only 75 people on the whole flight!!

The irony is that it was probably that fact that prevented you from being able to do it!

They tend to be more lenient with the rules when they know they may have to offer upgrades for free (ie: a full Y/W cabin) - at those times, miles are better than nothing...

I just flew LHR-BOS and used 20,000 miles to upgrade from K to J. It's not meant to be possible, but on a flight with a light load, they tend to be more lenient. I asked at check-in and was told it wasn't possible. I called FC and was told it wasn't possible. Then in the CH, the concierge took my boarding pass and came back 15 mins later with the new one for Upper Class. My advice: be polite, courteous, don't expect anything, hope for quiet flight and don't be grumpy if you don't get what you want. This is not the first time I've been able to get a K to J upgrade... :D
